Grovers to Gotohs Installed Pics added
« on: June 24, 2017, 12:30:24 AM »
Has anyone changed out their center screw hole Grover tuners for Gotohs?  If so, can you please show pictures of the back of the headstock. I'm really wanting to put Gotohs on my '02 W10 but I'm hoping that they'll completely cover the spot where the Grovers were and not have a lot of marks you can see.

You can get Gotoh 510s with a center mount just like the Grovers.  LMI has them in silver or gold.  I got the silver for two of my old Taylor's - perfect fit - no exposed screw holes.

Sure thing - I posted pics on a thread here after I had done it, but I can't find it.  I'll try to post pics this weekend.

Thanks - the wood buttons can also be found on LMI's website. Charis also offers some very nice wood buttons that fit Gotoh 510s.

I see several guys doing this but I'm not sure why? What is the advantage?

If you're talking about the tuners, they operate a little more smoothly and accurately while holding pitch a little bit better. Then there is the look, a bit sleeker, less boxy with a retro touch.

If you're talking about the buttons, I like the look and feel of wood, and they won't tarnish or pit like metal buttons can. It's another way to add a personal touch to your guitar.

Most of us who do this change do it for looks, feel, and IMO the GOTOH 510's are a bit more accurate because they are 18:1 (many OEM tuners are 16:1).
Collings 0001A (Adi/Mahogany)
Cordoba GK Pro Negra (Spruce/EIR)
Froggy Bottom H-12 (Adi/EIR)
Rainsong P-12 (all carbon fiber)
Robinson 12 Fret SS Dread (Spruce/Mahogany)
Santa Cruz Skye 00 (Adi/Cocobolo)
Taylor 714ce 12 fret (Cedar/Koa)
Taylor K-22ce 12 fret (all Koa)
Taylor 562ce 12 fret (all Mahogany)

What wood is the Darker buttons you have there?  Are they LMI and did you need the longer screws?
