New Here and New To Taylor
« on: January 13, 2013, 04:05:42 PM »
Hello,
A week ago a got my first Taylor guitar, a 614 CE.  I've played guitar since I was a kid and have played various brands of guitars.  Most of my adult life I've played Martins....just never really been exposed as much to Taylors.  Recently I had the chance to play at 614 CE guitar and it knocked my socks off!!  I've never had a guitar that played so easily!!!  And the sustain and sparkly high notes are amazing.  I'm about mad at myself that I never tried one years sooner!!  I got stuck on Martin early on and just stayed that way (not too bad a thing really...)

I'll keep my D-18 for bluegrass but for most other things (fingerstyle included) I think it will be me and this 614...BFFs!  I realize we're still in the honeymoon phase...but I can hardly put this guitar down.  Dishes and laundry are piling up :)

Nice to meet you all, great site here!
Cheryl

Hi Cheryl. Welcome to the UTGF. Congrats on the new 614ce. Taylor's seem to be rather consistent in the "knocking your socks off" feeling. You described my first Taylor experience...minus the Martin.  :) There might be a Martin D-18 owner or two around here. Enjoy the site.  ;D

Welcome to the forum.  Nice guitar you choose.  I have a Martin, but spend most of my time on the Taylors, they just play much easier IMHO ;)

Welcome Cheryl-

Great first pick for your first Taylor. It does make sense; after all, Martin will be the first to claim that it doen't really do maple well. Have fun with your new baby; I highly recommend that you try "different flavors" in the Taylor Grand Auditorium (GA or 14) model. You'll have lots of fun on that journey as you see that I have from my signature...
My Taylor Grand Auditoriums:

1997 Cujo14 - old growth cedar/black walnut
2014 K24e - master grade koa
2018 Custom GA - bear claw sitka spruce/mahogany
2019 614 - torrified sitka spruce/flamed maple
2020 714 - lutz spruce/rosewood

good to see you here, Cheryl :)
WELCOME !
congrats on the 614ce 8)

that was same guitar that got me interested in acoustic guitars &, more specifically, Taylors, because the
playability, tone & aesthetics were the complete opposite of what i had envisioned an acoustic guitar was

little did i know that a bit of what i was hearing back then were single note runs on a D18 (very nice :) ), but
over time i grew to appreciate contrasting & complementary tones (different woods, body shapes & builders) -
spruce/mahogany & the dreadnought shape have qualities that i find are terrific (& they're sometimes underrated)

dishes & laundry ???
that's what machines are for ;)

looking forward to hearing more from you :D

Hi Cheryl... and welcome to the forum. I am relatively new here also, and have learned much from all the gearheads here.. ;)
Maybe we can get some  varied guitar perspective and info from your experience in the course of time. Taylor does make a great
product that we have come to enjoy.. along with you.
Welcome..
