I pulled the trigger
« on: March 26, 2012, 08:13:45 PM »
I did it.  I put a deposit on a GS Mini LTD in Maple. :)  Now the long wait, should get here mid-April.

The dealer told me they will get 3 of Rosewood, 3 of Blackwood, 3 of Maple.  One person has already bought one of each. ???

I put a deposit on the blackwood version last week.  I'm getting told mid May - cautiously optimistic.

I just bought a GS Mini Mahogany a couple of months ago...might have waited if I'd known about these and tried out the Blackwood or EIR versions.  I expect the maple version to be really bright, which isn't for me, but I'm sure it will sparkle  :)

Just a side note:  I put the deposit on the maple, but I will be given the opportunity to opt for any three of them.

Next, the mini is a laminate and I have come to the conclusion that with this materials build that the outer skin won't make a difference in sound.  I will keep my option open as to which one I end up choosing by playing them all.

Does anybody have any thoughts on the sound of the GS Mini limited with them being a laminate.

I wonder if the allocation of Limiteds (if ordered) are based on the status that dealer has with Taylor and or the number of guitars sold in the year. :o

Generally speaking, when the Reps start selling LTD's, they call their best dealers first.

A lot depends on just how LTD the guitars are. In the case of the last Builder's Reserve sets, I had two sets of each to sell, and those went to the top guys; those dealers who always stock well, host events, and who represent the brand well. I lost count of the phone calls I got from dealers who had ordered, maybe, $15K in the last 12 months, and then got all upset when they found out they couldn't get one of those sets. Sorry, but those sets went to solid six-figure accounts.

What a lot of my dealers could never seem to wrap their heads around was the concept that good, strong dealers enjoyed more benefits in terms of "special" things like LTD's.

Reps are free to sell LTD's as they see fit, and they will always sell to their best dealers first...
No one has ever been on their death-bed wishing they'd been more practical...

:o I thought you just posted in another thread about wanting to turn in the 614ce for a koa? What type of tone are you looking for in a Taylor, or is it the bling that is calling your name?
