there were some dealers that were not able to get any
I wonder if the allocation of Limiteds (if ordered) are based on the status that dealer has with Taylor and or the number of guitars sold in the year.
Generally speaking, when the Reps start selling LTD's, they call their best dealers first.
A lot depends on just how LTD the guitars are. In the case of the last Builder's Reserve sets, I had two sets of each to sell, and those went to the top guys; those dealers who always stock well, host events, and who represent the brand well. I lost count of the phone calls I got from dealers who had ordered, maybe, $15K in the last 12 months, and then got all upset when they found out they couldn't get one of those sets. Sorry, but those sets went to solid six-figure accounts.
What a lot of my dealers could never seem to wrap their heads around was the concept that good, strong dealers enjoyed more benefits in terms of "special" things like LTD's.
Reps are free to sell LTD's as they see fit, and they will always sell to their best dealers first...
