New Taylor
« on: August 06, 2019, 02:28:44 PM »
I got a new 814ce deluxe last week. I love the tone.  Took it to a luthier for a setup and lighter strings and am now running 11's.  Still not completely happy with the action even after a bit of a bridge shave but I am chalking it up to the acoustic experience.  I had played a Godin 5th Avenue for about a year before upgrading.  Maybe I just had a lighter touch on that guitar and the acoustics take a little more muscle.  I played some in college 20 years ago.
I take lessons and am working on a few Zeppelin songs.  Babe I'm Gonna Leave You sounds sweet!

Welcome, Mike.   :D   Nice guitar buddy.  I hear you when you said you dropped down to 11s and had the saddle shaved.
I did the same on my 110e when I bought it new.  Went from 13s to 12s and now to 11s. Thinner gauge has not affected the sound at all, at least not to my ears. So I'm happy there. Saddle was lowered to specs for an acoustic guitar.  And just like you I feel it doesn't seem to be enough.

In my case, I should say that arthritis has affected my playing a bit.  Perhaps that's why I've been playing electric more often.
I know there's been a lot of talk about strings, here, and at AGF, and how some are easier to play.  Perhaps you should do some searching and see what strings are softer, or more yielding to pressure?

if you do, please let me know.  I'm still on the hunt for a better string.

Welcome to the forum Mike.  You picked up a nice one, a definite upgrade.  Hope you find your string choice.
