Volume Pedal
« on: December 20, 2018, 12:43:48 PM »
So for the last year I been using a Dunlop Mini Volume pedal with my acoustic pedal board....mainly for swells and such but also for some intro/outro lines etc. Im not impressed with it to say the least. It lacks sensitivity and is basically all on or all off kinda deal...I'd like to duplicate what I do with my electric by hand which has a volume pot within hands reach but obviously thats not possible with my Dred's....Has anybody had any luck or experience with other pedals or methods?

for reference the attached link and first minute of video is a good representation of what I'm talking about

Any opinion or suggestions is welcome.

I don't use a vol pedal on my acoustic board, but do on my electric board.  So the short answer to you is: they all vary!  Each volume pedal's travel/volume response differs, not to mention there are those that suck highs and others that are more transparent.

You really have to try them to see what works for you.  But like you, I am not satisfied with my Morely Mini where most of the volume ramp is near the heel down, so swelling smoothly up to full vol takes some practice ...not at all what I would call "good" but just barely usable.  I also think the mini pedals will suffer more here as the larger pedals allow for longer treadle throw, which likely will offer smoother, more natural ramping.  If I had more room on my pedalboard for a full-sized unit, I'd do so, but alas must make do with the mini purely for space considerations.  Post back if you find one you think works well, would ya?  :)

Yup, that looks killer, tlaw, and addresses the all the normal known bugaboos about the EB pedal.  Unfortunately for me, it's a full-sized pedal.  Should be awesome, though, and I am confident it will serve you well as I know a player who likes how his EB "feels," but dislikes its shortcomings.  This one fixes all that by the looks of it! :)

On my board, even the JR is just oh-so too long ...and it has to all fit back into the hard case so there’s no fudging there.  But yes, please offer up your impressions as things do change in my board from time to time :)

Ok so the PM-1 Jr model from "THRU-TONE" at first test drive is pretty dang responsive....it also has an even smooth volume increase throughout the travel of the pedal(something that I found illusive in anything but a guitar volume pot)...... not sure I'm allowed to but his website is http://www.thru-tone.com and is worth a look.

Cool beans, man ...glad that worked for ya, and good find, to boot!

Were it only 7" long I'd have been all over it, but alas, I refuse to go to a larger board, and my vol works, albeit less than perfectly.  Ahhh, first-world problems.  I'll shut up now ;)
