Reminded why I bought this guitar...
« on: July 31, 2018, 09:31:58 PM »
I was reminded today of the real reason I bought my 114ce-N about 16 months ago.
The reason it attracted me can be seen in my avatar.
Playability was another and more important reason.
The REAL reason came back to me when I changed strings today.
What a great sound! (can't believe it was the first string change for this guitar.. ::)  )

I can believe 16 months from a set of nylon strings.  I have some that went far longer than that.  I have an ukulele from late 2008 / early 2009 that still has the factory set of strings on it, and it has seen a fair amount of play time.  It is not my primary ukulele, which sees about 4-6 hours per week on average - still has the factory strings from last December.  The low G string gets changed about 3x as often as the pure nylon ones, mostly because the windings wear.

I kinda hate changing nylon strings, since they take so long to settle and hold pitch.  In fact, I have a classical guitar (gifted to me last winter) currently awaiting new strings, but it takes me a while to work up to it.
Taylors:  424-LTD (all koa) and a 114ce that lives with friends in Alaska.  Low maintenance carbon fiber guitars are my "thing" these days, but I will always keep the koa 424.  Several ukulele and bass guitars too.
*Gone but not forgotten:  a 2001 414ce, 410, 354-LTD twelve string, 314-N, 416-LTD baritone, T5 Classic, 615ce, 2006 GS-K, 1996 (first year) Baby
