So, What's in Your Bag?
« on: March 15, 2018, 11:22:08 AM »
I carry a gear bag whenever I play somewhere, which includes Sunday worship and respective practices. My list of things is pretty generic, nothing surprising:
  • Extra strings, both individual and sets. Elixir PB Nanowebs Medium (13-56)
  • Tuner -- Snark
  • Pens
  • Nail Clippers
  • A tube of "Big Bends Nut Sauce"
  • Wire cutters
  • Capo
  • extra Batteries (9v for the guitar, AAA rechargables for my wireless, CR2032 for my Snark
  • Wireless AKG DMS70, both the receiver and the sender and cables
  • Direct Box
  • Shure SM57 and cable (my stand is already there. Sometimes, rarely, I unplug the wireless/ES2/etc. and just like to play the 110e through a mic)  :)
  • A little clip-on light for my music stand
  • Lighter fluid and Fender branded microfiber rags
  • A little metal Altoids box full of .60 nylon Dunlop flatpicks
Yeah, it's a largish bag especially with the wireless and the cables, a nice over-the-shoulder leather job.

Do you all use gear bags like this, and what do you stock them with? Anything unusual?

THAT'S REDICULOUS - I have .73 Dunlop picks   ;-)

Seriously, we carry three bags around: one has all the mics and cables, plus tape, etc.  Another bag has our small monitor speaker and its cables, and a third bag has most of the stuff you mentioned (batteries, strings, etc) plus all the small parts we need: tambourine, kazoo, small bongos, shaker eggs, funny hats, dark glasses, copies of the set list, etc.

Things in mine are:

- Snark Tuner
- Capo
- iPad Pro (the big one)

The iPad is for the chord sheets and other things that may need it.  So maybe in the future a pedal to advance to the next part of the song.

Sounds similar to my bag of tricks. Depends on the gig.

Spare strings (usually complete set and extra B and G), tuner, capo, cleaning cloth, Altoids tin with 4 or 5 different picks and 2 or 3 bridge pins, 2 or 3 spare 2032 batteries.

Outdoor festival - add hankerchief, Tums, Tylenol, often spare tuner and spare capo.

Separate bag for gigs, 3 ring binder with tunes, music stand, instrument stand, clips to hold the sheet music in place, microphone, 1/4" cable. Normally now gig on mandolin so no need for microphone or cable. Unless I'm carrying a portable PA system, then include microphone stand and cable.
