When you think about using capos, you want a capo that you don't have to fidget with right? Most people that use capos are familiar with Kyser's Quick Change Capo. Their Quick Change was the very first capo that I ever purchased and it served me faithfully for years.
I'd like to send a big THANKS to Jenna from Kyser for donating some capos and other goodies to give away here on the UTGF! I have 3 of the new Maple finished Capos for giveaways along with some sweet Kyser swag!Ok, on to the review!
Packaging: The Maple Quick Change came in a clear plastic package that was easy to open. I hate those plastic packages that take a chain saw in order to open. The capo wasn't loose and rattling around. I know it might be nit picky, but I've always thought that one can tell what any company thinks about their product based on it's package. The plastic package was molded specifically for the capo. It also came with some information on how best to use it. Thankfully Kyser capos are very intuitive and are a "no brainer" to use or to get used to.
Capo appearance: This is one of their new Maple finished capos. It's actually not Maple wood, but just finished to look like Maple. I doubt we'll ever see any actual wood capos out there as they'd probably be prone to breaking given the amount of stress on the capo. Until you actually handle it, even up close it looks like actual Maple wood. It's a cool and unique finish! Please check out their website listed below to see the amazing variety of other colors they now offer! (blue, green, white, orange, black + many more)
Capo Performance: This capo is just like all their other Quick Change capos and readily gets the job done. As I stated earlier this capo is a "no brainer" to use. No adjusting, no fidgeting etc. Just grip the capo open and let it squeeze down on the frets you want it to. The spring is strong but not overly so. I didn't notice that it pulled any of the strings sharp tuning wise which was nice. This isn't a capo that feels cheap or that you fear will break. Like their other capos, it features nice padding for both parts that actually grip the guitar. Like most capo companies they recommend that you DON'T leave the capo clamped on the strings when you're not play or storing your guitar. That should be common sense as you don't want to put extra wear on the padding etc.
Capo quality: As I stated before this is well built. Should it actually break (which I highly doubt) Kyser offers a Lifetime warranty which tells you that they stand by their product. I've always appreciated companies that offer that type of confidence to their buyers. In the end, this is another great capo that isn't made to attract attention to itself. It's a great tool and quite frankly ranks near the top for ease of use. It's the type of "set it and forget it" type of capo. The type of capo that you can change EASILY with one hand. If you're in the market for a quick, easy to use, one hand type of capo, check Kyser out! They're priced really well and will be a reliable work horse for years and years of use.
Again, much thanks to Jenna and Kyser for their generosity!
