Had problems with my 214 being intermittent. Found trouble with the spring contacts in the battery case. Also when the battery case is subject to movement because of the strap attachment on the input jack it causes problems in movement of the battery on the spring contacts as well. Replaced the spring contacts with a 9V battery 'snap' connector and have had no further problem. You need to remove the spring connector board in the battery case and the snap connector will fit in its place with no trouble.
Openings for the battery connectors need to be slightly enlarged to allow battery poles clearance and the rear of the battery case needs to have a larger opening effected in it to allow free movement of the wires, but that is very easily accomplished. Battery replacement is very easily done, just make sure the snap connector wires are long enough to allow extraction of battery case for access. Wires that are provided with snap connector are usually plenty long enough. Note: you will have to solder connect the wires to the location the wires where the spring connector board was attached. Please observe polarity.(red to red Etc;)
