the hard cases are not-i know a Dread will not fit in a GA case-not sure if a GA will fit in the dread size though.

the old tan gigbag will fit either dread or GA, not sure about that new "gigbag" soft case or whatever it is they call it-but i would imagine it fits both.

Thank you.  I should have been more specific.  My real question is will a GA fit in a Taylor Dread case?

hi Taylor339,
good to see you here :D

WELCOME !i would suggest not putting a GA into a DN hardshell case, especially the deluxe cases, as the waist
of the DN is wider with a more gradual taper than a GA, & the contour of the padding will put more
stress on the sides of the guitar in the area right below the waist, on the upper part of the lower bout -
the fit will most likely be loose at the widest area of upper bout & tight near the top of the lower bout

here are some pics of a GA in a GA case & a DN case -
these are not current cases, but they show the areas well
GA in GA case

GA in DN case - air gap with little contact at the widest part of the upper bout, opposite the cutaway

GA in GA case

GA in DN case - the padding below the waist is extremely compressed (a very tight 'squeeze')

i hope this information helps to show the internal difference between the GA & DN cases

play on :D

it's all about why you play ...

Nope.  Neither will be a good fit in the other's case.  GAs will, however, fit in a GS case and a GS will fit (snugly) in a GA case.

michaelw.  Those pictures pretty much tell the story.  Thanks for taking the time to post them.

you're welcome :)

there were also 3 versions of 200 series hardshell cases that were used in 03/04 until late 08/early 09,
(black with chrome hardware & a flat top lid, with last set of DN cases having 5 latches rather than 4)
that have padding that was not quite as heavy as the deluxe cases & the lining compressed more easily,
along with the black 300/400 cases that were phased-in in 02 (with archtop lid) may be more forgiving
in terms of accepting different sized guitars, but the end result will most likely be movement or 'binding'
in one or more areas of the guitar within the case, which will not protect the guitar as well overall, imho

the Taylor hardbag will fit GA & DN models & is similar in construction to the GSMini hard bag ... very nice :)
https://www.taylorguitars.com/taylorware/Item.aspx?itemid=1271&categoryid=1010&page=1
the external areas covering the top, back & end pin, along with the internal neck rest
offer increased protection in these areas & when the bag is zipped up, the sides
become more rigid & the backpack straps make it as convenient as a gigbag to use
it's not about what you play,
it's all about why you play ...

Hi All,
Finally got some time to get on!

I have a similar question. My new x14 fits really, really tight in its brown case. I have to give it a good push (not sure how to articulate that?) to get it to slide down and fully seat. Is this normal? This is my 1st experience outside of my 2004 314, which wasn't like this. Is the case for the x12 the same case as for the x14?

Thanks!

In my experience, the fit of a Taylor brown case on a new guitar is very tight.  In time it will loosen.

The x12 and x14 cases are not the same size.  An x12 might fit loosely in an X14 case, but an x14 won't go into an x12 case.

My 614ce brown case is a snug fit.  I have to push the body of the guitar down to "seat" it before closing the case.  I think it's totally normal.
