Pure Speculation
« on: March 15, 2017, 12:37:13 PM »
Just thinking out loud here:

Since the Mexico factory is, with the Academy Series, now set up with machinery to make GC models, and 12 fret models, it seems like a great time to start offering the 200 (and/or 100) series in a 12-fret model.

I feel like we might possibly see some limited 12-fretters in the 200 series this year or next (with the koa GS minis doing so well, can you imagine how good a 212ce koa 12 fret would look?). And with the curved back on the laminates, maybe even a substantially different voice.

Anyway, just dreaming up a nice laminate that I can keep out and not worry about too much.

Through the years, I have purchased 4 Tecate-made Taylors, and all have been excellent guitars at a reasonable price. It is exciting to think that line could expand.

I had the pleasure of touring the new Tecate factory a few weeks back. It was very impressive. Everything brand new, squeaky clean, very automated. At this point, Taylor is struggling to keep up with the orders for all of the new models (Academy, Mini Basses, Walnut 100's, Koa 200's). My personal feeling is that the Grand Concert Academy guitars will keep them busy for a long, long time. But you guys are correct, maybe someday they will find some production time for GC size 200's. I'll try to post some pictures of the new facility soon.

Your speculation may be correct, of course, but I am having trouble seeing enough difference between a 112/212 and an Academy Concert for Taylor to bother.

I think the new Academy Concert is the new 112/212.

You just never know.... it might happen. Why, just a couple years back many of us were hoping that Taylor would come out with a 12 string version in the GO series. Taylor's response at that time (when they first came out) was that it would not happen because of the bracing in the new design would not handle it. Lo, and behold, look what we have today.... glorious Grand Orchestra 12 strings!
