Yeah, those latches are an accident waiting to happen. I always slowwwww down when I'm putting my guitar in or out of a case and make sure there's no way for that to happen, without going into the details. All it takes is a moment otherwise...

The new thin finish is a mixed blessing for sure. If you have a guitar with it, it will get dings in it sooner or later. Not sure I believe there's nothing to be done to repair it, in fact I don't believe it. Especially at the factory, if not at a gold tech center. But unless it's through the finish, I wouldn't worry about it, because it'll have a buddy sooner or later. Sorry, that's just the truth with that thinner finish.

Funny that Minnesotaman dropped a latch onto his new 614ce--I did the same in 2007, not a month after getting my 614ce!  Got a 4mm x 1mm ding on my lower bout.

Oh NOOOO....... :(  Is the mark on the back binding?

I can't believe I just did what I did! Took my 2 month old 614e out of the case and promptly smashed it into the low latch on the front of the case. Grrrrr. Put a nick in the ebony binding. It was inevitable, now I don't have to worry about it. I have 6 Taylors why this one!

No the front binding exactly where the side and top meet. If the body curve was a clock it would be between the 4 and 5 if that makes sense. I can't see it when I'm playing but I can run my finger over it obsessively. I still love this guitar, even if I recoil at its hideous scar.

Mine is through the finish unfortunately. At the time it happened I contacted a Taylor approved tech in the UK who said it could be done but it was my only guitar at the time and I didn't want to be without it,  so I never got it done. Maybe I should give him another call.

Years ago, my first truly good acoustic, was a GA7e.  I recall being so excited after opening the shipping box, tuning it up, and playing it for the first time.  So excited that I then wanted to plug in ...then whack!  My guitar cable's right-angle end (which btw I surmise makes for better damage than a straight end since its got that really neat elbow ;) ) gouges a juicy dent into the surface of that once pristine cedar top!  No buffing this one out, I can see wood!  After the initial involuntary expletive I admit, I literally chuckled ...again involuntarily!  For whatever reason, I saw the oddly (sickly?!) comical nature of the entire scene and just laughed out loud! Perhaps it was my age, perspective, or my electrics which each have their own little war stories, but beyond that initial hit, I was fine.  Fast forward from there and that GA7 was my primary go-to guitar for a good number of years (until another bit me, but that's another tale).

Misery loves company, eh? :)
Sorry for your incident, but like others who have already consoled you, this potentially liberates you from the uber-care of your guitar, and may just allow you to play with greater abandon and gusto.  Either that or ship her off to get fixed.  Your call.  But enjoy the guitar in whatever way you see fit  :D
