Locking the case or closing is sufficient?

I would engage 2 locks minimum for home storage.  Haven't worn out a lock since owning my first Taylor in 2007.

Agree with the others and have learned the hard way from a moment of inattention: I ALWAYS lock the latches...

That jangling sound when I fail to close just one latch drives me crazy although with just one latched, the case could be used as a tambourine.  Maybe I'm on to something.

I just bought a new 214ce DLX which comes with the Taylor hard case, and is quite protective. 

However, to open the case you have to unhook about 5 latches  and I do not want to be have to replace latches that are repeatedly opened and closed every time I take the guitar out of the case/return the guitar. 

Same reason I don't wear shoes- don't want to wear the soles out....

I never use the latches
I only use some of the latches
I use the latches only when the grandchildren are coming over

I would also like to add that I would rather replace a latch on my case from overuse than replace my guitar because it fell out of the case.

 I just latch one in the middle, saves time and wear , All my Taylor's are in Small Dog case covers they save from humidity swings and when zipped hold case closed.

i've seen more latches broken because they weren't latched -
i just received a current deluxe model case & i'll be swapping the
contents into a older el cajon made case once i get back to the house

it only takes a few seconds to check them, as the
latches can fail if the lid is yanked with 1 still closed -
also, i would not leave a guitar in this case
standing straight up on the tail end rivets
