Flexible Core Strings
« on: November 11, 2016, 09:35:20 AM »

I toured the Martin factory in Nazareth, Pa., four years ago, purchased a couple of sets of strings in the factory shop, threw 'em in a box and forgot about them until this past summer when I came upon them while doing some house cleaning.

Both are FLEXIBLE CORE strings, one set of mediums (.13-.56) and one set of lights (.11-.47).

The lights are "silk and phosphor" wound.

I'm hoping someone here can tell me about these strings. What makes them different from any other Martin Strings?

Also, I'm trying to figure out which of my acoustics I should try which set of strings on: the Martin OM28V, the Taylor 714CE, or the Taylor 615CE.

I'm thinking I'd like to try the mediums (non-silk) on the OM28V, and the lights (silk) on one of the Taylors, but someone on here may know better.

Advice, please!

My question is why didn't you ask Martin this when you bought them. You were already there.

Good question, Minnesota.

I'm sure I did, but it's been four years ago, and I forget what they said.

The 615 was made to take mediums.

martin used to have FX series strings that had more variance in tension & gauges

now, it seems that there is little difference in the B & e, but the concept
is a thinner core & heavier winding that allows for easier bending -
the .011 -.047s are quite light, imho, for a body shape larger than an OM
