Bob Taylor's Video on Starting Taylor Guitars
« on: January 04, 2012, 02:21:55 AM »
I have been enjoying going through Taylor Guitar's YouTube videos tonight. Although there are lots of good ones, I thought this one was especially interesting as Bob gives a three minute overview of how he started the business and includes neat stories, such as going to sleep at night holding a guitar neck when he was a kid! Also shows neat manufacturing sequences. Just liked this one so much I wanted to share with you!

Glad you enjoyed it, Michael. Yes - there are hours of entertainment on Taylor's YouTube channel. I also like those showing operations in the factory. Ity's as close as I can get to a factory tour. If someone has a photo album with pix from their Taylor factory tour, I would love to have a link to check it out.

John,

I spent a couple hours enjoying some of the links Michael provided above. Here are my two favorites. Bob Taylor up in Alaska with a team of guys harvesting spruce and having it flown out by helicopter. Also, the second video, Bob shows how those chunks of spruce are cut to provide guitar tops and bracing and explains quarter-sawn;

Great vids, all ...thanks for posting those links!  I viewed a few more after those ...sooo cool!  I can't help but think how innovative Bob (and Kurt) are, not to mention how driven they are to do so much in house.  The tooling to make their tools/machinery says it all: these guys are committed to making the best guitars their way because, after all, their way is the best way.  I know I know, other makers build great guitars, to be sure.  But do others build great guitars, at their production volumes, with stunning consistency in play, tone, and overall QC in every guitar, and offer customer service that is second to none??  Ahem, did I mention I love my Talyors?  ;)
