Does Freud have GAS pegged?
« on: July 21, 2014, 01:45:11 PM »
I was reading about the birth of psychoanalysis this morning.

"There is a residual dissatisfaction in even the most satisfying experience. The object always disappoints."

1998 Mahogany Baby
2000 714
2010 DN3

LOL.

My first disappointment comes when I discover the new guitar does not improve my playing.

Perhaps Freud had it right, but then again, I'm not disappointed - I just want more and more of a good thing!

...somewhere jagger is singing, "you can't always get what ......etc"

or "I can't get no ...satisfaction..."  :D

Ahhh, the nature of that silly human condition.  What good is having something amazing while pining for yet another?  Infinitely more fulfilling to be able to enjoy what one has , irrespective of its relative worth or assigned value.  It is not the object that disappoints, but the person who seeks worth in that which he possesses.
(...a-hem ...java-induced mental meanderings ;) )

BTW, Ciarre has it on the money.  Took me a while to learn that one ...hahaha!  :D

I can admit that I loved my Washburn until I got my Holden Village.  ;) Now I am thinking that I need a bigger Taylor and someone else should have my Washburn.

It is amazing how that works. My thoughts are similar to yours about getting a bigger Taylor.

How do you think stepchildusmc? She's glad I'm fickle with fretted instruments and not with women . . . and so is Bob Taylor.

Yes, I think Freud does have GAS pegged...but I certainly don't agree with him on everything. The concept of GAS can be applied to just about anything. I used to have PAS (purse acquisition syndrome) before I discovered guitars. I also have a lot more money available for purses than I do guitars, but one always can find a way:)

I too discovered that each new guitar did not improve my playing. But one should never lose faith.

That Holy Grail guitar will improve our playing because we would not be able to put it down.
