Hello to forum from Missouri
« on: February 14, 2014, 07:36:39 PM »
Just thought I would say hello....my name is techman and I have owned a 714ce and currently have a GS8e.  I am in electronics and have at times enjoyed making mods to the electronics in them.  I took the fishman blender in the 714 and put the built in mic element on a homemade internal gooseneck to position it better.  Actually helped quite a bit.  Recently I committed the unpardonable......I modified my GS8 expression system.  I hope you still like me!  I disconnected the neck magnetic pickup so I could hear the body sensors....they had no frequency response under about 200 Hz.  I tried moving one under the saddle, but it just didn't have any low end.  So I took out the magnetic pickup and body sensors, then installed a K&K mini.  I modified the taylor electronics to be high impedence to work with the K&K.....the existing circuit was designed for very low impedence [like around 50-100 ohms].  I am pretty happy with the way it worked out.  I didn't have a lot of money in it, I bought it used so I was not scared to mod it a little.  I am glad I did.  Not sure Bob Taylor would be pleased, but it worked out.  Also installed bone nuts and FWI saddles on both and liked that, too.
Anyway, that's my taylor story.....

Thank you for your kind welcome....you all have some serious stables of guitars. I find my skills may not warrant another nice guitar, but if I did I would like to get something like a 816C with a redwood top or a Goodall standard with redwood top.  I do play some in church and found the k&k has worked fairly well. If I was playing arenas, I would have stuck with the expression system.
Good to meet a fellow Missourian....from your handle it sound like you fly, too?
I was researching the new expression system and ran across this forum.  In one post, someone was asking questions about modding the older system. I was going to contribute, but I couldn't find the exact post again.
