Hi from the Desert.
« on: January 10, 2014, 08:02:28 PM »
Tim from Vegas here. I’m the  new owner of a Taylor 114, a Christmas present from my wife. Picking up the guitar again after 25 years. Sure beats the no name nylon string classical I used to have.  All I have to do now is teach myself everything I forgot.  Looking forward to learning and playing.

Take care,

TB

welcome in and welcome back Tim !
it's not all that hard to get back. i was in the same boat a few years ago. after a few years and some trigger time with my guitars i've discovered that i still suck( your results may vary as i stunk before i gave it up for 20 years !) but am enjoying the heck out of it !

Welcome Tim, Also from the desert, out here in Tuscon. The second go around is better than the first. Maturity has some advantage.

Hi Tim...my husband played classical and it sat for 20+ years in the closet.  I started playing
last year and then he got the bug so now we both are obsessed. He picked up where he had left off quite quickly and has taken to a steel string really well. I bet you do the same. The 114 is a really comfortable guitar to play....have fun!

Same kind of story here tb minus the nylon string and enter a 1978 fender dread.  Started with the Fender then set it in the closet,  bought a Taylor 110 25 years later.

Thanks for the Welcome everyone! Any suggestions on learn to play guitar books? Currently starting up with Alfred's Guitar Method. Seemed the best of the bunch I picked up from the local library.

My teacher started me on the Hal Leonard Guitar series. It has a red cover and my edition contains books 1, 2, and 3. It starts with the very basics and gives a good overall explanation of everything you need to know to get started. There's also a great website called justinguitar.com. It's free and this guy gives a lot of great lessons and song instructions. I think he's one of the best as far as internet instruction.

You should also check out two cd/downloadable series: Happy Traum's "Homespun Videos" and Stephan Grossman's Guitar Workshop series. Both have many lessons in many styles taught by well known guitar personalities.  Check 'em out online

Hi Tim! Our living conditions are worlds apart. You in the dry desert and me in a damp 'polder', meters below sea level. Still I know what it is to pick up the guitar after many years. There our worlds come very close! Enjoy it, it can change your life. With love from Holland.
