Granadillo
« on: April 22, 2013, 05:16:55 PM »
Glad to see a Granadillo option this Spring in the 400 series. I have a classical guitar made in Mexico with solid Granadillo (from yucatan) back and sides and what they stipulated as a German Spruce top. Although it's not built with the most fastidious aesthetic craftsmanship, It rings and rings like no other nylon string I have ever had. I tend to like simple adornment as well, so I'm kind of liking these 400's. I seriously need to win the mega lottery.

If only TaylorGirl. Tuition payments for two college kids. Besides, man does not live by guitars alone . . . he also needs maple syrup.

I had a chance to play a 414 LTD in grenadillo at the Taylor Factory last week.  It was quite nice.  The tone was dry, clean, and full of fundamentals.  Lots of sustain too.  My only gripe would be that the satin finish doesn't do the wood any favors.  Like imbuia and other more plain looking tonewoods, a gloss finish really helps it "pop" visually.

I would love to hear a 414 LE with Granadillo -- the description sounds like I would like it.  I do wish Taylor offered the LE's without the C & E -- don't want either.  Wonder if they have enough of that wood to make some customs, like a straight 416.

I'm with ya kmhaynes.

I play out about 5 or 6 times per year and in the places i play, it's about the entertainment. No one's hanging on the wonderful amplified tone. I don't do a lot of runs above the 14th fret - on acoustic anyway,  so I don't need a cut away and I just prefer the look without it. And too, I'd rather not have my valuable, exotic wood guitar come with holes drilled for electronics. That's why Taylor provides the option to get one's axe un tricked out if desired, I guess. I wonder if such a guitar costs more or less than the standard joint.

You will save XXX dollars of of MSRP for no cutaway,  the ES is about XXX so that should come of the MSRP price, what the local guitar store would price it out is up in the air.

Thanks mgap. That's news I can use. If I know the msrp, I can negotiate with the Taylor dealers near me for the order.

Looking at Taylor's website and the Standard Model Options page (10) on the current price sheet, the only option I see that has a discount is a Spruce top on a Koa Series model.
I don't see an option to delete electronics on a standard model. Last year the option was listed, but it seems to be absent now.

All standard models can now be ordered without electronics or cutaway and will be discounted accordingly however as a rule spring and fall limiteds cannot be altered.
