NGD: 2013 314ce
« on: March 01, 2013, 06:12:18 AM »
I said that I would never again buy a high end guitar without playing it first. This was due to a less than positive experience with a major online retailer.  After finally getting my money, I tried again with a different retailer who posts pictures with serial numbers of the guitars they stock.  I am happy to say that the guitar is even nicer than the pictures imply and plays great.  For any online shopping there is a website called www.resellerratings.com that seems to have unbiased reviews of different stores.  There can be a tremendous difference between various stores in the same categories.  I don't want to violate posting rules, but it can be a helpful tool.  If anyone is considering buying new, PM me and I'll tell you my experience with both stores that I dealt with.  I financed this purchase by selling my beloved, mint 2009 Martin D-35.  However, I'm happy to be in the Taylor family now.

Sapele can be a very boring wood, visually speaking. This is one of the more interesting pieces of Sapele I've seen.

I hope you enjoy your Taylor as much as I have mine - it looks a lot more striking than my friends new 312ce.

No, it's not bear claw, but it just has some "character" to it.  I had a choice of four different guitars and this was the only one that really stood apart.  I want to thank my friends on the forum for their advice. Especially Fellrunner, who pointed out that we here in the US have a lifetime warranty on new guitars whereas in the UK it is 10 years.  Since the resale value is so high on Taylors,  I was able to purchase a 2013 with a lifetime warranty, for not a whole lot more than a used 314 on ebay with no warranty.

Hmmm...looks purty anyway!

Mine isn't the traditional bear claw one thinks of, but it is bear claw none-the-less (so said a Taylor rep when I took it to one of their shows). The top on yours does make it unique (in a GOOD way!) ;)

Congratulations on your new 314.  The wood used to put this one together is very nice. ;)

Congratulations on a beautiful new Taylor!!!

I really like the symetrical / concentric ribbon grain pattern in the back, and the top has lots of character as well!

I have a GS in Sapele and I think it is a great sounding tone wood; yours is certainly very attractive.
