I agree I would not get the Running Horses. It's a little dull for the cost.

The wood inlays appear to be among the highest price options. Perhaps they're more difficult to execute than shell, because the material is not single-sourced like abalone or MOP....
My Taylor Grand Auditoriums:

1997 Cujo14 - old growth cedar/black walnut
2014 K24e - master grade koa
2018 Custom GA - bear claw sitka spruce/mahogany
2019 614 - torrified sitka spruce/flamed maple
2020 714 - lutz spruce/rosewood

The original 'Running Horses' design was created by by TGF/AGF member Mike Carter.  He created the design for the guitar he ordered during the "TaylorStock" event in August of 2002.

Here's a link to all of the guitars ordered at that event.  Mike's is the last one -- Scroll all the way down.  Here, you can see in progress shots and Mike's full guitar -- Sweet!

BTW, mine is about halfway down the list - Coco/Sitka 814c.  (This is also a great opportunity to notice the advancements in digital photography technology over the past 10 years.  I think the camera I shot these pics with had a total 6 pixels.  Not megapixels, just pixels...)

There were something like 71 guitars ordered at Taylorstock. I think I sold 54 of them. The "Running Horses" was delivered to Mike at a Taylor clinic, at Guitar Trader, featuring Dan Crary and Pat Kirtley. Bob Taylor was there, as well...

if i recall correctly, Mike's guitar was the highest $ one -
it was niiiiice ... just about mastergrade everything :o

there were a couple that i lost track of -
a sitka/ziricote GA (florentine cutaway, i think) &
a 614ce that had either a transorange top only or a natural top &
transorange back, sides & neck (i don't quite remember)
it's not about what you play,
it's all about why you play ...

I've seen the inlay and don't care for it, but neither of my main guitars have an inlay, not even dots, so I like a clean fretboard.  Compared to some other inlays the horses would not be my first choice, and in fact I would not own a guitar that had it.

Oh, nooooooo... Mike's wasn't anywhere near the most expensive. Remember, the Hot Rod came out of Taylorstock, too. Then again, I don't even know if that was the priciest...

for some reason, i didn't think that the HR was beyond Mike's guitar -
i can see that there was a lot more routing required for the fretboard inlay &
the flame rosette, but i don't remember the 03 HR LTDs being all that high

perhaps because the programming time ???
some of the appointments & upgraded woods didn't make it to the LTDs
but i was under the impression that the guitars were somewhat 'similar'

that was 10 years ago too, so i have hazy recollection (no braz that i remember)
