Have had my Spring 2012 814ce Coco LTD for about a month or so now. It is truly excellent. Having been a big 814 ce fan, with respect to the tone, cocobolo is IMHO usually a bit more articulate in response. The highs are clearer, the mids are more present and the bottom end is more pronounced than most 814ce rosewoods I have had/played. There was a Presentation Series 816ce in the shop where I buy and the coco on the 814ce to me was more appealing. While the Presentation Series are absolute pieces of art, I think they tend to be more highly polished. Anyway, I am very satisfied with my coco. Congrats to you on your purchase.

From what I read about Cocobolo I was expecting a much brighter/harsher high end. Not bright or harsh at all to my ears.

It's all relative - if you're used to the Ovation sound, you aren't going to find much of anything comparatively bright or harsh, relative to that.  Granted, the elite is a nicer guitar than the celebrity I use as my beach / party guitar, but it is still an Ovation, with the characteristic emphasis on the mids and highs and Ovation jangle when you strum it hard.

With the Taylor, you've still got bright, but balanced.

Ovations have gotten a bad rap. I have never played a guitar that had a better range of tones from low-mids-highs, than my Tenth Anniversary Ovation. It's simple physics. You have a perfect parabolic bowl that projects the sound. In this case, it was from a AAA Spruce sound board. I had to bite the bullet and trade this beauty in when I wanted to get a Mando. I understand, craftsmanship is the issue here and no one really loved the "fiberglass" guitar. Somehow, they've always been viewed as unnatural.
