Taylor 12 Fret Mahogany
« on: April 14, 2012, 09:27:14 PM »

I've owned my 12 Fret Mahogany for all of about a week now.  It took me a while
to warm up to the 12 frets, but the mahogany model convinced me.  It's my new
current favorite.

My question is this: for those of you who own and play a Taylor 12 Fret, do you
set your action and neck relief as if it were a standard Taylor 6 string according
to Taylor specs?  Or have you found you like a different set-up for the 12's?

Thanks for your thoughts and experiences.

I am a relative short timer with my 12-fret as well (a couple months now) but the factory setup has been working great for me. So well that I haven't even measured to see where it's at realtive to specs. Feels good in my hand.

I am mainly finger-style/finger-picking with a light strum every once in a while. I am happy where it's at.

Thanks, CigarFan.  The reason that I asked is that my 12 Fret is the only
Taylor that I have ever seen that came from El Cajon with a noticeably
lower action than factory spec'ed.  All other Taylors I've seen were at, or
higher, than the Tech Sheet specs.  It's sounding and playing beautifully,
but in time I'll want to experiment with various strings and replace the
Tusq saddle and nut.

I know a short scale is a short scale regardless of the number of frets,
however, this 12 Fret seems to like a lower action and neck relief than
a standard 6 string.  As others have already discovered, the Taylor 12
is a sweet, sweet instrument.
