Headstock finishes

I'd never really paid much attention to headstock finishes until I got around ya'll.
Do all guitars w/a burst finish have gloss headstocks?
My GS6E does.

So did the DN5E cherryburst I traded in on the GS6




The GS6 is a half again the guitar the DN5 was.

the acoustic non-cutaway series headstocks on the 5-8 (rosewood) & K(oa) (ebony) have gloss finish

the 600/900/koa & PS acoustic electrics, DDSM & DMSM have gloss ebony headstocks,
while the baritones seem to have satin headstocks & the 12 frets gloss (rosewood on those)

it has no correlation to whether or not the top has a sunburst finish -
the 200/500/700 & 800s have a satin finish headstock, 'burst or no

also, all of the 'standard' electrics have gloss ebony headstocks,
save for the T5-X, SB-1 & 2X (satin necks with satin headstocks)

usually satin rosewood
the 06 walnut LTDs had a satin ebony headstock overlay

on a different note, on the 03 300L2 maple it was gloss -
rosewood headstock, maple neck & back & sides

also, will be measuring cases shortly ... will update soon

I wish that the headstock on my 814ce had a glossy finish. The rest of the guitar (except the neck) is glossy, so why not the headstock???

I wonder if it has to do with the screws.  Knowing that they'll be taken out and put back in...I wonder if over time, that the screws would crack the glossy coat...?

I wouldn't think so, or there would be no gloss headstock. Prob pure economics.

All of my Taylors with the exception of my Big Baby have glossy headstocks.

i think that if the screws were tightened to the point to where the finish cracked
that they were likely overtorqued, which would probably flex or crack the TRC -
that much force would likely strip the holes in the headstock as well

the PS series are pretty much the only 'standard'
models i've seen that comes with a gloss TRC

There are allot of little things like that which should be fairly simple to implement.

I asked if a BTO headstock could come with the new Koa vine and flower except vine done in Paua and MOP for the flower. Tooling is already created for the inlay. Just a different inlay material. Answer: nope

I suppose the requested variations could get out of hand. So they nip it in the bud.

i agree, as there are so many materials that could be used for inlays -
paua, albalone, MOP, pearloid, ivoroid, colorcore, cocobolo
maple, koa, bloodwood, boxwood, myrtlewood, rosewood ...

imho, it'd be nice to be able to spec something that seems relatively 'simple'
like black binding with BWB purfling on the body, fretboard & headstock

or white binding with WBW purfling or creme binding with CBC purfling

i still like the tropical vine inlay used on the 04 L7s -
that would look very nice, done in koa & maple
