I'd vote for the 714.

The 714 has some nice features to consider.  I don't really know the sound difference between the two, but I'm sure Madagascar Rosewood back and sides would sound fantastic.  Do you know the difference in tone?  I personally love the tone of the 814.  Visually the 714 is nice because of the back headstock, the body looks very similar to any other rosewood body.  I prefer the binding of the 814 to the 714.

One thing is for sure you will be happy with either one of them.

Aside from what has already been said, the thing the 814 has going for it is that you can play it first before buying it.

My 2006 814ce LTD is pretty special.  It is also sitka over Madagascar Rosewood. To me, it has a bit more mids than standard 814's that I've played, that also did not have CV bracing.   But I have not played any newer 814's with the CV bracing for comparison.

Welcome SkyHigh

Between the two I'd go with the 09 714ce Ltd .

But my preference is the 814ce LTD that is for sale over on the AGF:

I had one and it was magical and besides l like the fret inlays and maple bindings.

Eather way the Madigascar one's is a good buy.

Thanks! The only thing about this one is that it does not have CV bracing. I would think that would count for something.

hi SkyHigh,
i agree that CV bracing can  bring something extra 'to the table'
out of the 06 814ceLTD madi & 09 spring 710/714/716ceLTD models i tried, i ended up with a 09 716ceLTD -
to me, the 12 814ce i tried recently sounded a little 'flabby' on bottom end (with a 0.88 tortex pick),
but the 12 714ce (engelmann, Standard II) sounded incredible to my ear, especially in the lower mids :o

that being said & tone being subjective, if i were looking in the 714/814 range &
if i was not able to play the actual guitar beforehand, i would consider these

814

714

used
http://www.guitarrodeo.com/previously-played/used-taylor-gace-limited-cocobolo.html

to me, examples of models i've played with adi CV (coco & maple) had a bit more
depth & warmth overall & i think that it would 'translate well' to rosewood also

ymmv

Although the 714 is also awesome, I would pick the 814ce for the 3rd Generation ES, CV bracing, full Taylor Warranty, and the rest of the extra bling that comes with the 800 series.
