not happy with john pearse
« on: March 14, 2012, 07:46:54 AM »
Threw some John pearse 600l bronze strings on my 814ce which seemed to take all the life put of it.  Not much bottom end and very fizzy.   I'm actually losing my love for my guitar.  What should I try next?

If you want bottom end on your 814, try DR Rares.  Fantastic string all across the tonal spectrum.  Their medium gauge strings are 12-54, about the same as other manufacturers' light strings.

+1 on the DR Rare.  Sweet strings.

I had great luck with the JP strings on my first Coco guitar not much beyond that however.

I have ther DR Rares on my 814ce right now. I've had them on for about 5 weeks or so. I wasn't so impressed with them when I first put them on and I'm still not. They sound okay and play good, but I'm ready for a change. My next strings will be D'Addario EXP16 Phosphor Bronze. I have always liked the D'Addario Phosphor Bronze EJ16's and I've heard very good things about the EXP's, so those are my next strings. I'm also going to put them on my Guild.

I just put a set of John Pearse PB's on my 814 shortscale and they sound great! They replaced my EJ16's and tonally to me they are equal. The difference to me is the lack squeeking on the JP's going up the neck. I recently upgraded my saddle to Elephant Ivory along with Elephant Ivory bridge pins. The tone to me improved somewhat, from the previous Colosi standard bone saddle. The bridge pins with the blood red dots trick out the look! Only thing left to consider is a Tortis pickguard replacement! (When you can't play well you trick out your guitar!)
