What is your idea for an Official Tour Guitar?
« on: March 13, 2012, 05:16:40 PM »
Taylor is running a new contest to create an official tour guitar to be played by Rascal Flatts. What do you think the specs on this guitar should be?  :o

Personally I'd like to see one of the lesser known woods to be used--such as sapele or ovangkol with gloss coupled with a sitka top that has an edgeburst. :D

I'm with you, Cindy.  Figured ovangkol, ebony binding, sitka or adirondack top
with a shaded edgeburst, all glossed including the headstock.  I'd probably buy
one of those.

It's about time Taylor put out a nice classic archtop with f-holes and everything.

That'd get my vote.

I might be the only one who doesn't care for the sound of ovankol, it just sounds like something is missing. I tried 4 or five guitars made with that before ending up with one made with sapele.

I also think it would be really nice if they made it so that it would cost not much more than say a thousand dollars above the standard 700 or 800 series guitars. Something that is still within reach for regular performers and a really excellent durable performer that can take the rigors of daly travel and shows.

My understanding, based on the information I found on the web page to which the link below leads, is that the design request is for artistic ornamentation to be added to a standard GS8:

If I misunderstood I'd appreciate being set straight.

Then I must have misunderstood what I read on the link I posted. I didn't go to any other link. Although my link says winners will get a GS8, it doesn't say the guitar will be constructed around a GS8. Thanks for the corrected info, Herb! :)

it's a graphic/theme/aesthetic design for a GS mini -
the template is in the 'download here' area, along
pics of the band's likeness that can be used as well
http://www.cmt.com/asm/rascal_flatts/index.jhtml
the winning concept will go on a GS8 that goes to the winner

i think that they're looking for an 'artistic-type' concept, maybe along the lines of this ???

Michael, some of those guitars in your link look like they have tattoos. ??? Hmm...I wonder if they will receive any submissions along the lines of Taylor Swift's sparkly guitar?!! :)

somehow, i don't think Rascal Flatts would be quite so 'sparkly' ;)

i imagine the designs could get pretty 'artsy' :)

I agree.  There is some kind of midrange with it that just bugs me.
