If You Could Design A Taylor Acoustic Guitar????
« on: February 21, 2012, 04:00:41 PM »
I was daydreaming and wanted to pose the question, what acoustic guitar would you have Taylor build. This is not a BTO but a guitar for the masses so let's keep the street price <$3000. I propose a GA5 with open back tuners and tobacco burst top over Adirondack spruce...

Make it a deep-body dreadnought with the same specs and I'm in. Others might prefer a honey sunburst though. :)

Also, tortoise binding might be a nice touch.

By and large, I'm okay with what they have offered, but I would plead
with them to make five series and above with glossed head stocks and
bone nut and saddle.  Currently, the only way to get gloss on a 5xx and
above is via the BTO program.

I'd like to see a gloss GA4 with Adi top and maple binding.

I have to agree with you on that one, Steve.  Glossed Ovangkol is some of the most
gorgeous wood that comes out of the Taylor shop, imo.

I'd go for a Mahogany/Adi 12-fret Dread, no fingerboard inlay, slotted headstock.

I'd be a happy guy...

I wasn't thinking that this was a vote as much as an open letter to Taylor as to what fans would like to see offered off-the-rack. I wish the powers that be at Taylor would pay more attention to non-cutaway models....

I'll vote for that too. ;)

I thought the acoustic series was a great idea, but it seems like it's on the back burner now. :(

I think I saw an R Taylor or Limited like this but a GC 12 fret, Sita over Rosewood like the standard but the slot head was shaped differently, I like the standard way too but this was cool, and dark trim, with Jude beautiful character in the rosewood. Pretty straight forward but with beautiful inlays maybe like the 900 series stuff on the fingerboard but not a lot of glitter around the guitar or sound hole.

all the above and i will add, MAKE IT A SLOPE SHOULDER DREAD.
and possible only 4" depth at the endpin or no more than 4.5"

no abalone rosette
deep dark burst
and offer it in adi/EIR for the other folks.
I would put a deposit on it TODAY

Sounds like Andy and Bob need to get to work on a 12-fret slope dreadnought...

i have a gc-5 and wouldn't trade it for less than a koa model which i think they already make.
