Fake 814ce at Guitar Center Round Rock, TX
« on: October 25, 2024, 02:10:09 AM »
I was there to pick up some strings today and checked out the acoustic section.

Picked this 814ce off the wall and noticed the action was extremely high. It had cutaway but no controls, just an undersaddle transducer and an output jack. Then I looked at the label, it was poorly glued, and didn't look like a Taylor label. The serial number was in the current format. The binding was weird. Grover style tuners that don't have "Grover" stamped on them. And finally, the logo... The logo is wrong! Someone sold a fake Taylor to Guitar Center and they are re-selling it at $2,800. I told the person on the guitar booth and they said they were going to call their "Taylor guy" to look at it. They dropped the price after that, but it is still expensive. Beware!

That would be unfortunate for GC, and for any potential buyer.  Once they have been informed it seems unethical to continue to sell as a genuine Taylor.  Taylor actually has a link on how to spot counterfeits here:  https://www.taylorguitars.com/counterfeit-taylor-guitars
Taylors:  424-LTD (all koa) and a 114ce that lives with friends in Alaska.  Low maintenance carbon fiber guitars are my "thing" these days, but I will always keep the koa 424.  Several ukulele and bass guitars too.
*Gone but not forgotten:  a 2001 414ce, 410, 354-LTD twelve string, 314-N, 416-LTD baritone, T5 Classic, 615ce, 2006 GS-K, 1996 (first year) Baby
