CV Bracing on 2009 Ltds?
« on: February 14, 2012, 02:24:36 PM »
I understand that Taylor began using what they call CV Bracing on the higher end ce models (700, 800, 900, KA), the acoustic models (GC,GA,GS,DN) and some of the Limiteds in 2009.

Does anyone know if the Spring Limited 400 series in 2009 (Taz Blackwood, Maple Binding, Abalone Rosette, etc.) got the CV bracing as well?

I am pretty sure that only the Fall Ltds had the CV bracing.

I had that one, and I'm almost positive it has the standard bracing.  I sold it to forhim (forum member).  You could always pm him and find out for sure.

bo1142,

Which model was it?  410, 412, 414, 416?  What did you think of it?  Obviously you sold it but what did you like/dislike about it?

I'm actually thinking of picking up a GS and one of these Ltds may be an option...

the 09 Spring 700LTDs (710ce, 712ce, 714ce & 716ce sitka/madagascar rosewood) had sitka CV bracing,
with the tasmanian blackwood 400LTDs having the Standard II (sitka) bracing pattern with relief rout

other LTDs that had CV -
08 Fall LTDs GSceLTD-C/K & GAceLTD-C/K (sitka & cocobolo or koa)
09 Fall GSceLTD-C/Ma & GAceLTD-C/Ma (sitka & cocobolo or maple) &
10 Fall mahogany GS-LTD (premium sitka/flamed mahogany) had adi CV

10 Fall 800LTDs (810e, 812ce & 816ce sitka/rosewod) had sitka CV & i believe
the 814ceLTD 12-Fret had specific 12-Fret bracing (although specs show 'sitka CV')

11 Spring mahogany LTDs MAH-DN/GC/GA/GS-LTD (all mahogany) &
11 Spring walnut W12ce, W14ce & W16ceLTDs (sitka/walnut) &
11 Fall 400LTDs (410ce,412ce, 414ce & 416ce sitka/rosewood) &
11 Fall cocobolo GA & GSceLTDs & the all-koa GA & GS-LTDs have sitka CV

the all-koa 12 Fret GC & GA show 'sitka CV', but i believe they have 12-Fret bracing

09 Fall 400LTD gloss (410ce, 412ce, 414ce, 416ceLTD-R) sitka/rosewood had Standard II bracing

sure thing :)
i had a 07 GS4eLTD sitka/tasmanian blackwood & to my ear, compared to some
of the koa models i've played, tasmanian blackwood seems  to be a bit more
consistent from guitar to guitar & it can  have a bit more depth & warmth -
i've heard koa described as 'flamed mahogany' & i've likened the tone of a koa guitar to
'mahogany with a touch of maple', but not having quite the 'pop' of sapele, so i would
venture to say tasmanian blackwood (to me) is 'koa leaning a bit more towards mahogany'

the appointments on the 09 Spring 400LTDs are especially nice, imho -
tas blackwood, gloss body, ab rosette, maple binding & mini wedge, slotted diamond fretmarkers &
ab dot bridge pins, with only the case, chrome tuners & Standard II braced sitka top being '400 series'
it's not about what you play,
it's all about why you play ...

How right you are.  I was thinking 2008 not 2009.

Michael knows what he's talking about.  I had the 414 that Boon is talking about and to be honest, haven't a clue the difference between cv and standard bracing.

I will say though, as Michael mentioned, the appointments for this limited series were the best I've seen on any 400 limited guitar.  It seems that they just decided to go all out...even the most recent 400 limited in the wood and steel magazine didn't have the appointments this series has.

Pick one up...you'll love it!

It was the 414, and it was awesome!  The only reason I sold it is that it was very close in tone to my K24.  It had excellent mids, with good lows and highs.  It also handle strumming or finger picking.  Overall, it was/is a great guitar.  I actually wish I still had it  :(
