Taylor deep-body dreadnought?!

I was browsing the limited models on the old site and came across a deep-body 810 that was offered as a Fall Limited in 2010. I missed this one completely! Not that I would have had the money to buy one at the time (because I didn't), but it does make me curious.

Have any of you played one of these models? If so, what was your impression?

Is this feature available as a custom order? Or has it already been implemented into the Taylor DN models as they'll often do?

Just curious -- I'm a dreadnought fan and something like this might give me an excuse to pick up a new one.

That was offered on, I believe, the 800 Series Dread.

As far as I know, it's not currently offered through BTO...

the body was 7/16" deeper at the tailblock, with CV bracing &
engraved victorian fretboard inlays ... sounds like it'd be nice, imho

i wish that the DNDB option was available BTO (it isn't, as of yet),
as i would like to spec one with adi/'hog & adi CV ... ka-BOOM

I really hope this wasn't just a flash in the pan -- I'd love to see options like this added to the BTO lineup. I'm curious how this guitar sounds compared to a regular 810/DN8. I imagine it has a more full, deep, traditional voice. I bet a short-scale version of the specs Michael thought up would be killer.

From all I heard and read, the deep body gave it more of a traditional (dare I say Martin) dread sound.  It also made it pretty dang loud.

Sounds like I'm in trouble if they ever add it back to the lineup.

i hope it wasn't a 'flash' either -
a 12 fret deep body DN, or slope-shoulder or square-shoulder (a la pre 97) DN could
make for some really nice ones, imho, say with adi/madagascar or macassar ebony

Yep, looks like there's one on his website. Thanks for the heads-up! I typically steer away from fancy inlays and rosettes, so I don't know that I'd get that particular guitar, but if I lived within reasonable distance, I bet I'd go give it a try anyway...

I played the one that Jim had (may be has not sure).  Very nice guitar.   I love the brightness of a traditional Taylor so this one wasn't for me.  It was somewhere between a Taylor and a Martin.  Played great and felt great even with the bit extra body width.

i was wondering if you were able to compare it (810eLTD) to a conventional
body depth CV braced 810ce or DN8 or, perhaps, to your Custom DN adi/eirw

i've played a good # of pre-Standard II 814ce's that had very focused trebles,
which, along with the midrange compression, i really did not care much for, but
some of the Standard II, & even moreso with the CV, models i hear more warmth &
'fullness' in the mids & a bit more shimmer & articulation in the trebles (sparkly') -
i realize these others are GAs with light gauge strings, & i had a 09 810ce CV for a while, but
i'm wondering if the trebles on the deep body seem to be more 'direct' or 'straight-forward'

i haven't heard that type of response in older square shoulder dreadnought models,
77 710 straight braced & 93 420 sitka/rosewood (eirw board & bridge) pre-Standard II,
but perhaps over time the bottom end & mids may have filled out a bit more ... or,
it could be the light gauge trebles on the EXP19s that accentuate the lower half

I had a 2000 810ce for a while and it probably compared closely to that.  Not sure where that fell in the bracing patterns.

For me the CV pattern seems quite a bit more zingy/sparkly and less of that warmer (deader) sound that a Martin has to my ears.

I'll be over at Jim's on Friday and I'll try to do some comparisons.
