2017 812CE 12 fret
« on: October 13, 2021, 06:17:08 PM »
I am looking at a 2017 812CE 12 fret and had a question:
Is that the "Advanced Performance" bracing? If memory serves, that was the last itineration of X-braving before they went V-class?

Thanks,
Jimmy

Jimmy, I think you are correct that AP was the last design iteration before V-bracing (which IMHO is NOT an improvement) although I'm not sure of the exact timing.  There are plenty of folks that believe the Advanced Performance bracing was the pinnacle of Taylor voicing.  The single nicest Taylor that I have ever played - out of hundreds played in stores and all the owned examples listed in my signature -- was a 522 twelve-fret with AP bracing at about that time frame.

Put plainly, a 2017 model with AP bracing would be more desirable and worth some premium (at least to me) versus something newer with V-bracing.
Taylors:  424-LTD (all koa) and a 114ce that lives with friends in Alaska.  Low maintenance carbon fiber guitars are my "thing" these days, but I will always keep the koa 424.  Several ukulele and bass guitars too.
*Gone but not forgotten:  a 2001 414ce, 410, 354-LTD twelve string, 314-N, 416-LTD baritone, T5 Classic, 615ce, 2006 GS-K, 1996 (first year) Baby

Earl,
I'm a lefty so chances to play these things aren't as common. I played an 814CE at Gruhns in Nashville about 4 or 5 years ago and I thought it was the best Taylor I've ever played...I should have bought it!!!

I agree with you on the "V-class" tone.

Jimmy I did not catch the "lefty" part on first reading (my account preferences are set to not show signature blocks when I'm logged in - I see more posts per page that way).   Being a lefty really argues for grabbing what is in stock when you can.  A bird in the hand.....
