Just sold my forever guitar.
« on: July 11, 2021, 05:26:07 PM »
Well , I guess you never know …. I just sold what I thought 8 years ago was my forever guitar, my very first Taylor , my very first really nice guitar. I know my 816ce  has found a good home. It gave me years of joy and helped tremendously in honing my guitar skills, to the point where I was finally comfortable playing in front of actual people … and  they even clapped ... who knew?  That beautiful, sweet sounding guitar served its purpose and then some. But since that purchase I have be very blessed to have the opportunity to now own a handful of Taylor’s and the purchase of my 814 Cedar V-Class sealed the fate of my beloved 816. I got to the point of feeling obligated to play the 816 when I would have preferred to play the 814 or one of the others.

But I know that the 816 will be making beautiful music for years to come… so, I am all good … happy playing everyone!

In your heart, if you know it's time, then it's time. Sounds like a well thought out decision. That's the best you can do.
At least you still have my K24's big brother.  ;)

Guitars are there to support your art. As your art evolves, a beloved guitar may no longer fit your needs. This has happened to me several times, and is about to happen again, so no judgements here. God bless you on your continuing journey!
My Taylor Grand Auditoriums:

1997 Cujo14 - old growth cedar/black walnut
2014 K24e - master grade koa
2018 Custom GA - bear claw sitka spruce/mahogany
2019 614 - torrified sitka spruce/flamed maple
2020 714 - lutz spruce/rosewood

Musical tastes and missions change, your hands change, and your priorities change.  So I've been there several times.  My examples include a 1990 custom shop Martin J-40 "forever guitar".  My 2001 414ce "forever guitar".  My 2006 GS-K koa/spruce "forever guitar".  There are still a few remaining that won't willingly go anywhere until I have assumed room temperature.
Taylors:  424-LTD (all koa) and a 114ce that lives with friends in Alaska.  Low maintenance carbon fiber guitars are my "thing" these days, but I will always keep the koa 424.  Several ukulele and bass guitars too.
*Gone but not forgotten:  a 2001 414ce, 410, 354-LTD twelve string, 314-N, 416-LTD baritone, T5 Classic, 615ce, 2006 GS-K, 1996 (first year) Baby
