Sad...
« on: January 23, 2021, 09:44:38 AM »
Aside from the "music association" thing, not a single post has been made in "The Lounge" in over two weeks, and then it was because someone died.

Do you guys really just play guitar and do nothing else?
The world is like a book, and he who does not travel only reads a single page...

Perhaps everything else we do besides playing guitar is away from the computer. That's not sad at all!

Unfortunately, the country's reaction to COVID put an abrupt halt to 95% of what used to be my typical social activities:  playing team sports like softball & volleyball; attending a professional baseball game; hanging out with friends at a restaurant or meeting them at Corvettes at Carlisle; etc.   Outside of work, upkeep on my residence, music, and poking around thrift shops for stuff to flip on eBay, I've got little else to do...

Even flying around in my PA-28-180 has become little more than an exercise in simply staying current; almost everyone is still too frightened to step outside their door, so I'd be going solo; and in fairness to those who have chosen self-isolation, there's little point in heading somewhere for a $100 hamburger when the chances are most out-of-state (and some in-state) eateries have shut down -- some permanently... :(

What I find sad is how some people can judge others so flippantly and harshly when in fact all of us are in need of mercy for our own failings.

We are here primarily to share our love for guitars....particularly Taylor's. Having a "lounge" is a bonus. I haven't noticed any difference in the use of the "lounge" recently, as compared to the last nine years in which I've been a member here. I don't think that recent activity or inactivity has been "sad" in any way. If members want to share, they'll share. If not, then that's just fine.

What I find sad is how some people can judge others so flippantly and harshly when in fact all of us are in need of mercy for our own failings.

Who did that?

All I said is that I thought it was sad that the only topic in The Lounge is some word association game.

And then I asked if people here didn't have any other interests.

If you find that "flippant" and "harsh", might I suggest that you might wish to procure some thicker skin. If you're unable to accept a differing opinion without deeming the individual expressing that opinion as "harsh" and "flippant", honestly, I'd prefer you just refrain from commenting at all.

Timfitz63, you're a pilot? Man, as a photographer, I would love to see some of the photos you could come away with doing that. I'll guess that there aren't too many people here who are pilots who'd also love to see that, or even read a story about you flying to a neighboring state for lunch.

SoCalSurf, are you in San Diego? Orange County? I remember some decent surf there (so big they had to close the Ocean Beach pier), especially during El Nino. Any stories or pics to share?

Anyone read books? Watch movies? Cook? Juggle cats? Woodworking? Stamp collecting?

Anything?

The UTGF is just over nine years old, and in those nine years this sub-forum has grown to only 28 pages. I've just never been on a forum which had something with so much potential, yet no one availed themselves of it.

I just have to believe there's more to talk about than matching song titles...

I saw an archery competition where an arrow hit the wrong target.
I didn’t expect to see that again.

Looks like this thread is running away. That’s great if folks find this a place to find bond and a sense of community, but there’s certainly no obligation for anyone to feel obligated to contribute if they don’t feel like sharing, there’s certainly no need for growth for post post counts or threads in a lounge area.

let’s focus on creating content that adds a purpose or has good discussion points moving forward.
