Any shops still selling 2011 Limiteds?

My intent was to help the OP track down the guitar they are interested in. Not to start a taboo conversation.

See, that's an interesting comment, as well.

Why would discussing the expectation of a deep discount, simply because one is a member of a forum, be a taboo conversation?

It is simply to help the smaller shops that aren't able to compete with shops which offer bigger discounts. It all ties in to Josh's response which he posted here.

Actually, Condy, that has nothing to do with what I asked. Let me try another way:

Why would you expect a deep discount from a forum dealer?

Deep discounts do not help a smaller shop. In fact, just the opposite is true. Smaller shops, which enjoy neither the traffic nor cash flow as a large dealer may, cannot compete for very long if they're selling guitars at just a few points over their cost. They may land a few sales here and there but, in the long run, a dealer who's not making enough money to run their business isn't going to be in business very long. That's not an opinion, that's a fact.

I believe my question is a fair one. Why should/would/could someone expect a deep discount from a forum sponsor?

As this forum does not currently have sponsors, we should be able to freely discuss this topic without hurting any "smaller shops"...

It's no different than saying I expect a new set of strings on a guitar that's been on display. Why do I expect that? Because those strings have been played; they're not new.

Ok...so, back to the Limiteds. Thanks for the info. Having been a long time member from other forums I can, for the most part, understand what to expect price wise. If anyone else runs across these, please let me know.

Obviously this needs to be said:

The UTGF is a new forum which is still going through growing pains (as a couple of well-respected forum members have mentioned to me).

I liken our forum to a fine dining establishment. Prior to opening for business, we decided our restaurant would accomodate individuals who relish fine food and service. So we offer a variety of foods and entertainment which caters towards a diverse clientele. We offer a family-friendly environment but also have a nice bar with a wide-screen TV.

Occasionally some heated debates come up over sports which are friendly and spirited. However, we've had a few encounters which turned into barroom brawls. During some of these brawls, some innocent bystanders got hurt. And some of our well-respected clientele, the ones who are our bread and butter, decided they no longer wanted to partake of our services.

So we have made a business decision to stop certain bad behaviors before any additional patrons get hurt. There are other nearby bars where people can get into fist fights, and since there are plenty of them, we have decided to escort some of our patrons out of our restaurant so they can cool off. They are certainly welcome to come back when they have calmed down, but we wish to cater to those individuals who desire to partake of fine food and entertainment.

Do shops typically just discount these to move them or do they tend to hold on to them. I am looking everywhere for a 2011 Fall Koa but no luck.

I believe I saw a few 2011's at The Arts  in Newmarket Ontario, Canada.
IMO a very fine retail  representative of the Taylor brand, and others .
No affiliation ,other than a satisfied customer.

The Arts used to be one of my accounts. In fact, they were the top Taylor dealer in Canada in 2011. They "get it"; they stock deep, and always maintain a ridiculously comprehensive representation of the line...

even tho I love my 914ce cedar, I can't second guessing if I should have bought the 2011 fall ltd koa instead

I hear people raving on and on about how great koa is after it opens up , but it didn't sound great new

I especially second guess it bc I liked the 2011 714ce, which has a cedar and rosewood, but I liked the warmth of the midtones, which apparently koa shines i
maybe my wife will let me buy a used one 10 yrs from now

hey all, just wanted to ring in here on the some of the "tone" comments on the 2011 Koa Limited.   I own one and it is sweet! The tone was beautiful from the getgo and has just gotten better in the last year. It definitely rings differently than your rosewoods. I have the GA body style and was surprised by the bass tone as well.  I did change to the Bronze Phosphorous strings and that made a difference on the bass tone. Just wanted to say that i think it is the one of the best examples of the Limited value and distinction. The fact that it was the first Limited series authored by Andy Powers (I think) is a plus. Finally, the Koa is extraordinary and the aesthetics of this guitar have not been matched with anything Taylor has put out since. If you can find one buy it and enjoy! Cheers.

I am still looking. I actually found an engleman topped one overseas. It's the only one I have seen so far. I have found a couple in shops left but they want a great deal more than I want to spend.

check davesguitars also, i did not check his listings but he carries a lot of stock-they will "deal" at times also if they know you are truly ready to buy.

i've owned some all koa taylors, they are a unique breed and have a sound all their own. my suggestion is to make sure you have trial period to see if it fits your style.

If you're still looking for a 2011 Limited in Koa...I was in Maui in January and Bounty Music had a DN left that sounded great.  If I was looking for a Dread, I would have taken her home with me.  The tone had already blossomed out of her.  If I remember correctly, the price was very nice.  Good looking figuring and coloring...
