michael, you mentioned having a short scale but still a 14 fret'er. i also see this neck scale on taylors as an option on some models. so, i thought having a short scale neck meant having a 12 fret'er. am i wrong to assume this? thanks

the standard scale length on the current grand concert is 24 7/8", 14 frets to the body

the standard scale length on the current 12-fret series GC is also 24 7/8"
with the bridge placement moved lower on top, further from the soundhole

the 12 fret GA has been offered on a few GA LTD models (Fall 10 814ce LTD
Spring 11 cedar/macassar & Fall 11 GAce LTD Koa) & it is a current BTO option

there did not appear to have been a R Taylor 12 fret option on their website
but apparently there has been at least a couple (or more) Style 2s made -
sitka/rosewood adi braces
cedar/mahogany no cutaway

it's all about why you play ...

so, if i were to order an 814ce for example, and i chose short scale. i doesn't mean it's going to be a 12-fret isn't it? you have to got to BTO path to get a 12-fret.

no worries there, as the 12 fret is a specialty model (GC) or BTO (GC or GA) -
the short scale option for the 814ce (14 fret) would be on the
SMO (standard model options) options list ('modify-a-model')

there are separate BTO order sheets for acoustic/acoustic electric (1 form)
12 fret, baritone, nylon, T5 & T3 - i haven't seen a BTO sheet for the Solid Body yet

got it! thanks again  :D my initial assumption was; short scale neck = 12-fret.

you bet :)
actually you were pretty close -
currently, the 12 fret model is only available with
a short scale neck (no 25.5" scale 12 fret ... yet)
