@ not darth,
I LOVE THAT GUITAR! I hope one day to acquire all three of the gallery series. If you don't mind, would you pm what you picked that beauty up for. If you ever sell, I call dibs.
I will gladly post my BTO when it arrives. Great pics and wow!! That shaded edgeburst Adi is amazing.
I asked for some striping on my Adi top with the shaded edgeburst:

These are 2 beautiful acoustics.
Gary, what lens are you using? Macro? What exposure?

Gary, that tortoise binding on the BTO is absolutely amazing!!! Does it go around the body in addition to the neck?

My GA3 has a little striped ebony on its fretboard so I also asked if striped ebony was an option for a BTO fretboard as I had never seen one specifically made that way before. The fretboard and bridge are Macassar Ebony.

I was just about to start a picture thread, every forum needs one, glad our host beat me to it!
Here's my Taylor, it's waaaay out of my league, and was a total splurge, but I had the means at the same time as the opportunity, and when that happens, well...... ;)

Cindy - I love your guitar and especially the striping on the fretboard! I have never seen on like it. Super nice!me, too & me neither (first macassar ebony fretboard i've ever seen)

also, is the finish standard gloss or is it more along the lines of the thinner
'hand-rubbed' polish, like sonia leigh has on her adi top BTO 514ce ...
either way, it sure is purrrty & i'll bet it sounds even better than it looks :D
Andromeda - beautiful guitar! I love those fret inlays as well.

just looking at a BTO option sheet & it looks like Cindy pulled out all the stops :D
the upcharge the bridge as is much as the upcharge for the fretboard,
but, imho, the entire package and end result was money well spent
very nice :)
It is the standard gloss. Does it not quite look like that? It might just be the lighting.i guess it could be the lighting -
are you kidding me ???
wow :o
i was thinking that if i were to spec a BTO, that would be it -
adi/macassar, GS, venetian cutaway ...
that is sweet :D
just wondering if it has the 65' radius top with modified x bracing or
the flat top geometry with asymmetrical bracing pattern ...
that & the scale length, neck carve & width at the nut (heh)
congrats !
I added the info to my original post..nice :)

sorry, i got a little carried away ::)
any possibility of posting a link to a soundclip -
i found one, but the echo/room reverb in the room is terrible

if not, if you've played a spring 09 716ceLTD sitka CV/madi,
how would you describe the tonal difference between the two ?
sorry to be such a bother, but ... that is such a cool guitar :D
hey Michael.. good find on that video..i rechecked the video at 0:33, froze it & compared the backs -
I am 99.5% sure that is the ACTUAL guitar I wound up buying! The top is pretty distinctive in coloring and markings, as is the back, obviously..There was discussion from another forum member that some of the R Taylors that were available had come back unsold from the UK.. Its a 2007, dead mint, unsold.
I am guessing it it true.
I can get you clip, but likely not until next weekend or so.. Its killer though..
I don't know if I'd compare it to Madgascar so much for the low end, but its very even, without a lot of long sustain..

And just for good measure, here's my brand new 315ce... much more "plain-jane" than my 615ce L30 Honeyburst, but still a looker and she's a sweeeet player! This is now my main workhorse guitar and we'll let the 615ce hang on the wall and be admired for a while! :)

Pretty floor, too. ;D

Thank you for your kind comments, spieler :)
Yeah - she knows. She is usually using it, so I had to steal it away late at night from her and take it to the basement for the photo session! She will be using it again tonight for a show in Detroit at some art gallery in a loft in downtown Detroit. I have a 612 ce, which I love dearly, but when it's time to take guitar pictures, I gravitate towards hers right way because of those beautiful inlays. I guess I should take a few pix of my guitar since I have never posted any.
Then I'll have a new wallpaper for my screen. ;D
Here's my latest addition :) 2011 916ce with florentine cutaway.
I've owned a few Taylors in the past including a 610SPEC, 615c, 310ce, many BBT's and a Baby M. Currently on my second GS Mini and own a an 810e
810e. One of the last of the production 810s, this one with ES and tobacco burst. Added Gold/black Gotoh 510's. Thanks to Ted at LA Guitar Sales for hunting this baby down for me.
My second GS Mini. Bought the first one Christmas Eve 2010, and enjoyed it. Ended up selling it and later regretting the decision. So I bought another...will be dolling it up with gold mini Gotoh 510's, a colosi bone saddle, ebony/abalone pins and possible a Nichols TRC.
Matt - Super nice Tobacco burst on your 810! I also like your choice of the black & gold Gotohs - they make a nice addition. When you get the mini Gotohs and other accoutrements on your GS mini, I would enjoy seeing some pix!
My R Taylor style 1 Ziricote and Adirondack still reigns as my go to guitar. Not too bad looking either, in my opinion :)

What are some folks doing to post pics so small?
Dustin, some of the smaller pics have been uploaded as attachments rather than being linked to Photobucket/Flickr. With the pic of my TRC, I opted for a smaller pic which would enlarge somewhat when clicked on. When I linked it to a full size pic, it was just TOO HUGE! Not everyone will want to go the Photobucket/Flickr route though...

thanks for posting the Photobucket method of posting pics here - it be nice for it to go into a permanent FAQ section ... Josh, you listening buddy ;)
hi Dustin,
i apologize for the error, as i was misformed regarding the photo attachment process - also, the photos that i posted were linked from a site & the 192k/4 pic limit does not apply when that process is used (linking rather than by attachment)
thanks again for the Photobucket user outline - i need to open an account there because it seems to work much better here than what i use

Here is my BTO. Cedar top with Mahogany back and sides. Ebony binding, 600 series inlay, T5 neck, short scale, shaded edgburst, Gotoh ebony tuners. Sounds like honey, plays like butter.

My humble submission to this thread: my 210. I think I got a really great set of woods with this one -- check out the nice grain on the top and the really nice silking. Also, the sapele on my guitar is really nice -- from a distance you get the typical striped look, but closer in the grain almost looks more like mahogany.
My 210 has the signature Taylor "sparkle" but also has a nice dry, woody, punchy tone in the bass and mids that I don't hear often when I've played other Taylors. It records beautifully and people have always given compliments about how it sounds live -- I've had several people ask if it's an old 510 before and they can't believe it's a 210.
Anyways, I'm a big fan of understated beauty in guitars and this is about as simple of a Taylor as you'll find. I love it!

There's a distinct lack of walnut in this thread :P
This my 2011 414ce Spring LTD - and my first Taylor. For my ears and hands, it's the best guitar I've ever played (and I'm actively looking). It's a woody, breathy orchestra on your lap.
Photos thanks to Willcutt... I still haven't had the time to take my own proper photos. And I've acquired 2 more specialty Taylors since that also need some photos!

congrats :D
i was wondering if there was any other designation than 710L9 on the soundhole label,
as the standard 710L9s were engelmann/eirw, or perhaps it was a LTD run ordered by a
specific shop, as has been done in past by buffalo bros, dave's, gruhn's & wildwood guitars
either way, i imagine it's a pretty rare bird ...
thanks for sharing the pics 8)
Says "Short Scale" between the Model & Ser#s. I got it from the orig. owner who bought it from a store somewhere, that ordered it that way to compete w/very high end Martins etc.wow :o
I talked to my Rep @ Taylor ,he confirmed everything, and said records indicated it was AA Brazilian.
The 614ce is curly, the 612ce is flamey, and the Baby maple is mostly flamey as well.
Here is my favorite Taylor, Kenny Loggins Signature Model:

I'm pretty sure "curly" and flamey" are the same thing.
Nice guitars!
Taylor doesn't use Birdseye maple for their guitars. They use quilt or flame (aka "curly"). I think Bob may have used Birdseye many, man years ago on a couple of guitars that he actually built, but I'm pretty sure it's never been used on production guitars.
Curly Maple is more popular, if for no other reason that it's far more readily available...
I thought quilt and bird's eye were the same thing...?
Michael, thanks for the YouTube link! 8) That was very informative! :)you're welcome Cindy :)
Taylor uses nothing that's referred to as "bubble quilt" or "sausage quilt"...perhaps not specifically listed on the BTO sheet (a & aa-quilt),
perhaps not specifically listed on the BTO sheet (a & aa-quilt),

Well, I can tell you this, if someone viewing those pictures orders a Maple guitar with "sausage quilt", he's likely to be disappointed...
or maybe not, if the correct pic was being viewed ::)
I think this one is deer sausage quilt? ;Dlooks yummy ;D
Steve
i imagine one could make a request with the dealer when placing a BTO order & it would be dependent on the wood sets available (which are selected by people) 2 or 3 piece back & when specifying premium quilt, it could be pretty amazing, imho :)
just noticed that aa-quilt was not offered on the latest BTO lists, but it was available in the first quarter of last year ... hmm

Actually I'd call that the honey sunburst which is an option for the 6xx maple guitars. My previous 614ce had a back that was colored very similarly. If it were just an edgeburst, then the center of the back would be much blonder in color.

This is what Honey Sunburst normally looks like. As you can see, it's much darker around the edges:

What about just posting a link? Often times, this may be the only way to show an example of something...

This looks more like tobacco to me; however, my time is too valuable to quibble over the color. When the past issues of Wood & Steel are available, they will show the previous burst colors that used to be available. :)

I asked for some striping on my Adi top with the shaded edgeburst:
My GA3 has a little striped ebony on its fretboard so I also asked if striped ebony was an option for a BTO fretboard as I had never seen one specifically made that way before. The fretboard and bridge are Macassar Ebony.
And the back is Madagascar Rosewood.

Cindy, your guitar is just gorgeous. I am taken every time I scroll thru this thread. And I do like Macassar!
Out of curiosity, is the top cedar? And the added striping is what kind of wood?
I wanted a striped theme...the only other thing I could have gotten instead was a sinker redwood top that would have had striping, but I do LOVE the edgeburst, and I don't think I would have liked an edgeburst on sinker redwood. :D

good to see you here :)WELCOME !i was wondering if you have the 10 Spring LTD with sitka top & maple neck
(just above the heel cap, the neck looks pretty light in color)
or if it is the 11 Spring LTD with cedar top & mahogany neck ???
either way, that's some nicely figured grafted walnut :o
looking forward to hearing more from you soon -
please make yourself comfortable :D
Got some new photos of the '95 GA-KS after I cleaned her up, and changed the tuner buttons and bridge pins:
Strumming, i was curious what type of bridge pins are in your GA-KS now ???
to me, they look dark (wood?) with a lighter color dot inlay (MOP/ab ?)
thanks for sharing the updated pics :)
Here's my recently purchased 2010 GA-K...
How do you get the pictures "in" the post...instead of as attachments?
Hi guys, I'm a new kid on the block so thought i wood post a pic of my pride and joy, my DDSM , which i have had for a year or so and love it to bits.
Not bad. Is that headstock rose an inlay sticker? I've got a similar one on my fretboard.
Had to add photos of my latest BTO (GA number 6!) - she's sweet!

Ok, my turn, I just bought this New, 2011 Taylor 716 ce vintage sunburst, with Western Red Cedar Top under all that sunburst, Abalone, rosette dots in the fingerboard and Abalone Taylor insignia in the headstock, to my understanding, the 2011 has the Western Red Cedar Tops also the brown case with brown fabric, I am going to have to get used to the wider string spacing, wider neck than I am used to and the medium gauge strings. I am sure in time it will all come about, the guitar is a keeper, has a huge long sustain on the strum,
The guitar has that warm sound I was seeking, though the action is a little high, the neck has a very slight under curve, which is very correctable, seems the store didnt do a set up for me, so I ordered the 1/4 wrench from Taylorware, It would had been nice if the wrench came with the guitar, it kind of holds me up doing my setup, so I live with patience, as of today, this 716ce is still a keeper, there are sure some fine Tayor Guitar pictures on this forum, thanks

I'm a new member. Having trouble uploading pics. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
I am pretty new here, and so is my Taylor. Here are some pics of the 414CE-FLTD that I picked up a couple weeks ago. Love this guitar, sounds and plays so great. Already had my first gig with it and she played great !congrats :)

My 3 Taylors.
Interesting in this picture the GS mini to the left looks about the same size as the NS32ce in the middle. Of course it's the 814ceTSB to the right.
Trond67: I can't see the pic. Anyone else having this problem? (Maybe it's my computer).
Nice geetar!
I am surprised the headstock has no inlay. I think that's the only "first edition" I've seen without one.
(http://) This is my K14ce. I actually ordered the new model, with the Island Vine fret inlay, the shop screwed up. So! This is mine until the new one arrives (Taylor are making more) then I get to choose whichever I prefer at no extra cost. Awesome :)
Just loving the detail of my K14ce......and the sound of course
Hi Nikki,
I was torn between a 814ce, K14ce and the K14ce that I bought. Glad I did as the appointments and craftsmanship are superb. I'm a big fan of wooden craftsmanship so all the wooden inlay, binding etc ticked all the remaining boxes and sealed the deal. You're doing the right thing waiting for your one to arrive before making your decision. But I can already guess which way you'll go :)
The one I have at the moment has wood binding although its Maple. I always seem to name my guitars (I'm not even sure I do it on purpose.. it just.. happens) and like a fool I've named this one Bobby. And boom, an emotional attachment has happened! So we'll see. I'll keep you posted :) One of the things I am conscious of is the fact that with the guitar I have at the moment, the wood has had time to age, whereas the one that's arriving has been made within the last ten weeks. How did you find the tone of the koa with it being so new?

That Engelmann/maple sunburst is gorgeous Strumming Fool! I had a 614 sitka/flamed maple for a while but it just sounded too thin, though I did love the sparkle of maple. I've always wanted to try an Engelmann/maple GA to see if that would give me what I was looking for.
Hey there SF,
Well you certainly know what I'm talking about then! Is your beauty a GA? That's quite the dramatic burst ...the back looks like it's on fire, wow! :)
Edward
Thanks Edward - yes it's a GA (so boring - that's all I play!)

Yes it is beauty. I noticed that the fingerboard is the smokey style, I love it. How long ago did you get this? I am thinking it must be one of the first non solid ebony fingerboards Taylor released.

Here is my '03 815-CE-L1 Braz ;D
Back and sides even prettier and plays like a dream
I asked for some striping on my Adi top with the shaded edgeburst:

My GA3 has a little striped ebony on its fretboard so I also asked if striped ebony was an option for a BTO fretboard as I had never seen one specifically made that way before. The fretboard and bridge are Macassar Ebony.

And the back is Madagascar Rosewood.

The day I purchased it. I drove all the way home on the nj turnpike with this out of its case in the front seat. I was to giddy.
Our newest addition to our family - a special birthday present for Val - Taylor PS14CE. These are just the shots from the store web page, but hopefully will give you an idea of how it looks.

Those are Gotoh Tuners in an antique gold finish with black tuner buttons. Taylor offers these tuners on some of their higher end models, limited editions and as a custom option. I'm about to replace the buttons with snakewood buttons that should go very well with the koa. Hope that helps...
That's a real beauty! If I wasn't the proud new owner of my 816ce I'd be extremely jealous. As it is, I'm only moderately jealous ;)
I have a question. Is there an official name or description of those tuners? They really look special, particularly with the overall look of your guitar.
My K26ce and sister K66ce and my PS16. I am unworthy but I'm not giving em back!
Thanks guys - she's a real player too!

Nothing like the classic beauty of a well-maintained 90s Taylor - thanks for sharing!
Two very different looking 600 series Taylors. Both are absolutely beautiful. Never played a 612 before, I will have to someday.
I posted a pic of my 314ce earlier but it looked lonely standing out in my yard all by itself. Here it is with a little company from some fellows of questionable character rocking at an outdoor venue this summer.

Hi everyone.
Although I have 2 Taylors, I am showing only one here for now, the 914ce L7 Limited (Engelmann Spruce & Brazillian Rosewood combo). Unfortunately my 510ce was left at my brother's house outside of town. Will post when I get it back.
Just picked up this one used. Custom 12 Fret Sitka/EI Rosewood. Not a mark on her...she looks and sounds fantastic!! Love the silking in the Sitka, and the EI Rosewood has some great figure. I am in love with this little guitar!!!

That is gorgeous!
Certainly not in the league of the beautiful guitars in this post but this is my first Taylor (and not my last!)It's definitely in the same league....after all, it's a Taylor! Nice!

I'm trying to post pictures here that I uploaded to my library at Photobucket, but it's not working. In the forum message I'm trying to compose, I'm clicking the "insert image" icon, then clicking the IMG link of the picture in Photobucket (when I click the link, the box's background turns yellow and says "Copied" before displaying the link again), and pasting that link between the placeholders. When I hit the "Preview" button, all that I can see is, literally:

The Ovangkol is the new norm aside from RW/Mada.
The Ovangkol is the new norm aside from RW/Mada.
In my experience, ovangkol delivers a power and depth similar to rosewood but without the mid range scoop, which is why it provides a better balance IMO.
My 717 on our little church stage for online service Sunday...Very classy!
Here is my absolutely beautiful new 414CE-R.
I’ve played on it every day in the last two weeks since it arrived and I couldn’t be happier about it. Now I just need to step up my guitar game to do this wonderful sound justice.
On the pictures you can see the guitar in its case, in my garden and a sweet snapshot from my cat being just as excited about the instrument as I am.

My old 1999 410. Ovangkol back and sides. 1st year for NT neck. Looking to get a 214ceDlx next month. Always loved the tone and playability of Taylor guitars above all.
I feel a little guilty about posting a couple of non-Taylor guitars on the NGD list for 2024, so thought I'd post a few pics of my Taylors from prior years.
