Some of the best BBQ sauces I've had were "custom", made each day at a little mom n pop restaurant.

But, I'm starting to lean more toward dry rubs on steaks, and then just a bit of butter on top, I think this showcases the meat flavors better instead of just covering them up with sauces.
Dang, now I'm hungry!

Michael,

The only BBQ sauce that I use is Jack Millers's sauce.  I don't know if it can be found all over since it is made in Ville Platte, LA.  The description of it is "The bar-b-que sauce with a cajun accent".

Here is a link to their web site  http://jackmillers.com/

Its well worth a try if you can find it.  You won't be dissapointed.

AKA "food porn."  ;) Regrettably I've never taken pics of my own barbecue.

That Jack Miller sauce looks interesting. I note you can buy it from the website – I may give it a try!

Chattahoochee Mud on pulled pork sandwiches.

I agree with not darth on steaks.  Try 1 tablespoon of kosher salt, and 1 teaspoon of Hungarian paprika, ground pepper, garlic powder, thyme, and finely ground coffee.  Great rub.

Oooo, hadn't thought of adding coffee!  Will try that, thanks!
As with beer, the best rubs have few ingredients.  (Beer= hops, water, yeast, malt)
When I started trying steak rubs I put in up to ten different ingredients, now, I'm down to 4-6 depending on the mood.
Salt, chile powder/cayenne, smoked paprika, garlic powder, sometimes ground cumin.
Also like putting a bit of horseradish on top, near the end of cooking.  That, plus a bit of grilled onions and/or bleu cheese = awesome!

I will try the horseradish near the end of cooking, that should be very good. Thanks!

I start with a jar of "Bone Suckin' Sauce" and doctor it up with whatever we feel like that day.
Citrus, brown sugar, honey, vinegar, apple, tomato...anything's possible!

I've had that, but on chicken fingers/boneless-wings at a party once, mmmm, mmmmmm! Tasty!
They had kind of made a reduction of it so it was super thick and it was like a glaze instead of a dipping sauce.
I bet it'd be fantastic on pork!
Droooooooool!
