Moving to AZ
« on: April 05, 2019, 04:52:23 PM »
So I just dropped off the last of my seven GAs at Martin Music in Memphis TN. They'll be shipping my babies to my new retirement home in AZ. I already miss them, but I know I'll see them soon, thanks to Eric Martin's professional team.  I'll lose touch for a few weeks starting next Tuesday until I'm plugged in in AZ. Have fun in the meantime, you guys! I'll miss you all as well …for a while!
My Taylor Grand Auditoriums:

2018 Custom GA - bear claw sitka spruce/mahogany

2020 714 - lutz spruce/rosewood

Enjoy the next chapter of your life.

AZ is beautiful - my parents/brother live in Flagstaff and my niece/nephews live in the valley.

Where are you moving to?    I'll guess...Scottsdale or Sedona?  Depends if you like snow  ;)

Now you get to learn all about humidifying wood guitars, in case you weren't already fully up to speed.  The low indoor RH during Alaska winters (a constant struggle to get all the way UP to 20%) is what got me into carbon fiber guitars in the first place, and Arizona is even less wood-friendly - but still quite manageable with care.

Mother in law lives in Sun City (west Phoenix) and we get down there a couple of times a year to visit her, but not during the summer.  Lots of pretty areas in AZ.
Taylors:  424-LTD (all koa) and a 114ce that lives with friends in Alaska.  Low maintenance carbon fiber guitars are my "thing" these days, but I will always keep the koa 424.  Several ukulele and bass guitars too.
*Gone but not forgotten:  a 2001 414ce, 410, 354-LTD twelve string, 314-N, 416-LTD baritone, T5 Classic, 615ce, 2006 GS-K, 1996 (first year) Baby

Thanks Earl-

I have a strong feeling that my Oasis case humidifiers will no longer suffice. The guitars will be stored in their cases in a walk-in closet in the music room. I;m thinking that I'll shut the door of that room and run a good room humidifier in there along with a reliable hygrometer or two....

A humidified closet sounds good.  At 20% RH indoors, even two damp sponges in perforated soap dishes in each hard case could not keep up, and were bone dry every week.  I eventually switched from sponges to water beads, which helped - they hold considerably more water.
