Taylor Price Increase

I don’t know what else went up but the 2019 K24ce saw a hefty xx% increase in MAP.

It's easy enough to see the increase(s) over the years. Taylor puts their "Price Lists" online and the 2019 prices are shown under each model shown on the catalog page. I also don't think I've ever seen a Taylor sold at MSRP but yet, a xx% plus increase is a jump alright.

A 2018 314CE-N was $xx, now $xx. What's that, a xx% jump?

Just a reminder, forum rules do not allow discussion of guitar pricing. This topic can be discussed, without specifics re %'s  or $'s.

Then please delete this thread. It has no value if we cannot discuss public information, especially that published on the Taylor website.

That's the part I don't get. What other public info posted on The Taylor website is off limits?

An incredibly needless restriction, IMO.  You gotta wonder if it hangs around due to "that's the way it's always been" philosophy.

Despite Rule #2, perhaps it makes sense to at least publicly discuss the reasons behind the restriction against open discussion of Taylor prices on the forum -- even Taylor's publicly-published information -- and revisit whether Rule #2 is actually relevant for this forum?  I think a lot of members (myself included) do not understand the rationale for such a restriction, particularly when (per Rule #2) it only applies to Taylor guitars.

I understand that this is someone elses' site, so they don't necessarily have to justify anything to the rest of us; but in keeping with the spirit that I think this site embodies: we're all adults and act as such; so treat us as adults and at least explain Rule #2 to us.  And to be honest, simply referencing Rule #2 to 'offenders' whenever this topic (open discussion of pricing) comes up is not an explanation; it's enforcement.

Just sayin...

Hi All!  Thought I'd chime in here.  Please know that I get the arguments both for and not allowing any type of pricing discussions. I know for some that it's frustrating.

From time to time this topic will pop up.  Most of you that have been here since we started in 2011 know that we simply branched off of the Acoustic Guitar Forum (AGF). They had the "no pricing" rule as well and we simply carried that over.

Pricing topics always seemed to blow up per se with members getting frustrated both at each other and with their local guitar dealers.  For instance, a member would say "Hey I just got this wonderful Taylor 914 guitar for $5.00!"  Then another member who just purchased the same guitar from a different dealer would be frustrated because their local dealer charged them $10.00 for a new 914.

When we got started, I had a number of Taylor dealers reach out to me regarding forums in general etc and one of their main asks was to also not allow pricing discussions.

We all for the most part LOVE our local dealers, and most of us would never want to see them close their doors etc.  We decided early on that by not allowing pricing we would also eliminate pitting dealer vs dealer.  To find the best price etc, would still be easy...just a phone call or email away, but financials would stay off the main pages here etc.

Over the years, I've had the occasional conversation with some of the wonderful folks at Taylor.  When the topic of pricing came up they too asked that it not be allowed.  Please keep in mind that even though we are not affiliated with Taylor etc, we still wanted to respect their wishes.

Taylor has been gracious enough to let our forum thrive and so the no pricing rule remains.

Pricing on pretty much anything else other than guitars is ok.  If any of you have questions about pricing for other members or dealers here, please feel free to reach out via PM or email or phone.

I hope this helps clear the air etc.  I know that hard topics like this should always be handled with grace, humility and kindness.  I NEVER want to come across to anyone here as condescending or as a "well these are the forum rules, deal with it" type of guy.

I appreciate all of you, and you all have made this community a joy to be a part of.   :)

And they no longer have that policy, and as a former mod, we had no complaints from any of the Sponsors that are guitar sellers.

I'd vote for you to loosen that up.

What different dealers charge is one thing - but what is publicly posted on the Taylor web site is something else altogether. With no other explanation then "See Rule XXX", the banning of info directly taken from the Taylor web site seems foolish.
It's pretty simple really - did the info come directly from Taylor? If so, it's good to go.

you didn’t ask for an explanation, you asked for what isn’t allowed to be discussed. the explanation is posted above.

the background of the pricing rule, eloquently stated here. Josh is the owner of the site and the rules are simple, clear and reasonable.
