All right, gang . . . here it is with the strings on it. It will be shipped to me in about a week, so I should have it for the last weekend of February or first week of March.

Again, if anyone wants to give it a whirl please let me know! Shoot me a PM or email.

Thanks guys. I'm definitely going to report my reactions.

To make it better, Brad has another guitar out on a road trip – the Tornillo Carmen that he posted about on the AGF. I'm going to be getting that guitar soon as well, so I'll have TWO Kolayas here to try out!

(Cue Doublemint gum ad here)

I had to buy a couple more Hercules stands to handle the overload!

Lot's of eye candy there Sachi.  From the headstock to the armrest, to little different take on the standard Florentine, it all works.

Congrats!  :)

Yes, one of the things that I like about Brad's work is that it is very harmonious. He hits the little details perfectly imo.

That's where Brad's Big Ol' Hammer slipped. He assures me that he won't make a similar mistake on MY guitar. ;)

I love those sound ports. I might put one in this 214. I wonder what kind of reinforcement that would require.

I laminated  3 layers of very thin veneer to reinforce the area in the one I put in my maple parlor.  (During the build)  A laminate side will be less susceptible to cracks but it also depends on the design of the port.

The Kolaya just arrived a little while ago, and I've been trying it out. It's Amazon Rosewood and cedar, and the tone is very clear. It does not have a ton of sustain, which I found a bit surprising given how my EC rings for a long time.

It is small, very comfortable, and much nicer looking than the pictures suggest. The build quality appears immaculate.

More later! It's time to do some A/B-ing with my other guitars.

All right, I've been playing it off and on since it arrived. Either the sound or my ears are changing as we go along! Again, it is very clear. It has more sustain than I at first thought – I had to learn how to hear it. (Remember, I use a cochlear implant to hear, so I do need to learn how new things sound.)

I'm still learning about the balance of the guitar. I'd say it was a more "modern" voicing, more towards the Taylor end of the spectrum than the Martin. It doesn't sound like either brand though. I'd hate to say more at this point because my impression of the sound has been changing constantly (and getting better as it goes along.) I've been fingerpicking, mostly, but it also sounds good flatpicked. It can hold up to strumming as well, although I'm not whanging away at it.

The arm bevel is a treat. I've noticed that the guitar is sensitive to the weight of my arm and is much louder and more resonant when I hold it so that my arm does not rest on the side and top. This is a very light guitar – my GC-5 weighs a ton compared to it!

The neck is excellent. Brad mentioned above that he admires Taylor's work. I would not be surprised if he had used the Taylor neck as a guide! The action is perfect, nice and low but with no buzzing.

More later as we get used to each other. :)
