Molded Case for Grand Auditorium
« on: June 18, 2016, 10:59:35 PM »
I have a 614ce and my shoulder is a little wonky, so I'd like to get a plastic molded case, you know, SKB style, for the guitar.  Does anyone know of such a case that will properly fit a Taylor Grand Auditorium shape guitar?  I went to Guitar Center and none of the cases they had were a decent fit. :-\

Welcome to the forum RocketP! :)

I presume that you're looking for something lighter to ease the shoulder, but still replete with protection, right?
I sometimes use my Gator "hard bag" which has rigid foam sides, top, and bottom (far stiffer than the Taylor bags), but built like a cordura gigbag; this ain't no soft gigbag.  It is very light, has backpack straps, but most importantly I still feel confident enough in its ability to support the neck and protect the entire guitar.  Mine fit GA, GS, and DN.  Check it out on Gator's website ...not expensive and worth it just to have as a light-duty case without fearing for your precious cargo.

Welcome Rocket!

Another similar option to the excellent Gator case is the Access Stage 3 case. (The dreadnought version fits my GA like a glove.) Highly protective with rigid sides, neck support and backpack straps, I use this case for any of my GAs when taking them out of the house. The original Taylor cases are now just used for storage. Check out their website, which will also assist in finding a local dealer for you.
My Taylor Grand Auditoriums:

1997 Cujo14 - old growth cedar/black walnut
2014 K24e - master grade koa
2018 Custom GA - bear claw sitka spruce/mahogany
2019 614 - torrified sitka spruce/flamed maple
2020 714 - lutz spruce/rosewood

Thanks for the ideas guys, but I think I really have a preference for plastic because I'm kind of a clean freak and I want be able to just wipe off all the schmeg from the road and dirty venues. :P
