As per the current installment of
Wood and Steel, the new PS sports macassar back/sides. Nice!
In the many years I've now had the pleasure of owning Taylors, I have
rarely ever seen this gorgeous wood applied. And did I not happen upon a 2013 616 SpringLtd a couple of years ago (which is euro-spruce over macassar), I would never have known what a lovely species this is! Aesthetics, it's a flat-out stunner with a dark, chocolaty hue accented by lighter streaks. But sonically, it has a deep, focused voice with depth and richness, all the while maintaining a tonal clarity as if each note were "outlined" as it punches through the soundhole. Thick, yet defined. I'd almost describe it as a "rosewood-plus" if that means anything.
While I never see myself getting a PS guitar, it's nice to see Taylor "validate" this exceptional wood by granting it top-tier model status, as their premium rw and Brazilians have in years past. Kinda makes a guit I already love just a little more special
