Ordered my 522e Cedar/mahogany
« on: December 27, 2013, 06:29:11 PM »
I finally ordered a Taylor 522e 12 fret today with the Western red cedar top.  Taylor is actually closed for the holidays until Jan. 6, so the order will not officially go in until then.  I also optioned for last years 512e 12 fret if it is still available from Taylor.  Anyway, I can't wait!  I hope to have it around March 1st . . .COME ON SPRING!!!  Does anyone know about how long it takes to receive a guitar from Taylor?

I am pretty sure that a 522 is a mahogany top and back and sides, not cedar/mhog.  the 512 could be a cedar/ mahogany.  but, congratulations it is going to be a sweet guitar.

Well on further investigation I see that Cedar is a option.  They are changing the line up a bit.  It use to be that the Cedar would be a option on the 512.  uhmm...

Cool....how exciting for you!
This past spring, it took Taylor 5 weeks to get me my 512ce (cedar/hog).

Thanks!  The Western red cedar top is an option.  It does come standard with the mahogany top though.

Congratulations! I was thinking about ordering this very same guitar in cedar/mahogany. I love the inlays on that model.

Did you have a chance to play a similar 522 with this wood combo before you ordered? I've been unable to find even the all mahogany 522 12 fret, but I suspect it would be fabulous.

This might be a silly question.  Besides the 12 fret neck, are the other major differences between the 512 and the 522?  Both of them seem to have mahogany back and sides and provide for a cedar top option.

What am I missing here?

According to Taylor's website, the 51X models are all Legacy models now (except for the nylon versions).  I believe that means they are no longer available.  So the only way to get a "512" is to order a 522 with a different top (unless you can find one NOS).

Yes, I did  get to play a 522ce all mahogany at the store where I ordered my 522e cedar.   It played very easy so hoping the 12 fret is even easier.   They are also checking to see if there are any  512e's left in stock.  I will be happy with either one, with the only major difference being the 512 rosette, which IMO looks better than the 522 .

I like the abalone rosette better on the 512 over the 522 as well.  This all mahogany rosette is nice and I do actually look foreword to it since I have a few of the abalone in house.

ZZounds shows two of 512ce guitars on their website.

The 12-fret is noticeably warmer than the standard GC and yes, it is even more playable.
