Nut width of Taylor 314 new 2013 model
« on: April 10, 2013, 10:17:45 PM »
I was looking at the new Taylor's on the Sweetwater website. The 314  which was the former GA3  which always had a 1 3/4in nut width in there specs is listed as 1 11/16th...I can't find the 2013   Taylor 314 listed on Taylor's website so I don't know if this is just a mistake or was a real change Taylor made.. The 314 is one I am thinking of getting in the next couple weeks but a smaller nut width would be a deal breaker. Anyone know the specs on the new 314??

Taylor's site shows 1 3/4" as being standard. This is for the 314CE, as the 314E and 314 have not been added yet.

The GA3 was 1 3/4".

Sweetwater's site seems to have conflicting specs. The first set shows 1 3/4" with large pearl dot fretmarkers and the second shows 1.6875". The fretmarkers on the current 314CE are 4mm pearloid dots and I doubt they would have measured down to ten thousands of an inch.

I'm going to float the nutty idea that it's entirely possible that they simply ordered a 314ce with a 1-11/16' nut width.

I also noticed that the 314ce linked on the Sweetwater site has a 3-screw TRC, whereas the one on Taylor's site only has two screws. I'm almost certain that my 314ce only has two as well.

That sure could be, so it's not so nutty after all!  You don't have to fret about being saddled with stock specs because you can order 314ce's with either 1 & 11/16" or 1 & 7/8" instead of the standard 1 & 3/4".  You can also change to short scale from standard scale... as well as a few other option choices.

yeah, that was kinda' my point. "Modify A Model" allows for such changes for little, if any, charge.

...and my point was to toss out a few more guitar puns! ;D

I have a short scale 814ce with a tobacco burst, no pickguard, and ES delete (which really makes it an 814c) that was ordered through that program.  Although I think now MAM has become simply known as "stock model options".
