Mini bridge pin and tuner button questions
« on: February 18, 2012, 10:10:52 PM »
I have a new GS Mini that I'd like to cosmetically tart up a little.  I'd like to change out the bridge pins for ebony with abalone dots and also the tuner buttons for ebony.

First, the bridge pins.  I see you can get ebony and abalone ones directly from the Taylor store but the description states they are for 300 series and up guitars.  Will they work for the GS Mini?

Second, the tuner buttons.  I don't want to get into a complete tuner replacement, just the buttons.  I've read in several places that replacement buttons don't always work with Taylor (Ping?) tuners.  Can anyone suggest specific replacement buttons that are known to work with GS Mini tuners?

Thanks for the assistance!

That was the first place I looked, but I didn't see anything that mentioned Ping tuners.

I'm hoping someone can suggest a specific part number that worked for them.

hi HD,
i tried to use standard ebony bridge pins & on the E, it was a 'no-go' -
the pins will likely have to be sanded & a needle file used to deepen the slots on the pins,
especially on the wound strings (the windings at the ball ends are just too thick) &
i've had to do this when i installed ebony pins on baby Taylors in the past, as i didn't
want to have to use a reamer on the bridge pin holes & then have to 'ramp' the holes

for genuine ebony buttons, GRO-2050E from FQMS should fit -
i've used them on the ping mini tuners with no issues

hope this helps :)
