714ce-N vs 712ce-N
« on: August 12, 2021, 03:32:51 PM »
So I have had my 714 for about a month now and other than the fact that for a $3500 guitar is is quite acoustically "unloud" (compared to my Ramirez which booms) I am happy with it.  Sounds great amplified of course which is how I think they are meant to be used.  I own a 12  Cordoba which really sounds quite nice. I also had the Taylor 412ce-N and sold to finance a Godin Multiac Grand Concert which I liked but never quite warmed up to.  Maybe the rich lite fingerboard had something to do with it.  Looked like shiny compressed black paper. In any event I sold that and got this 714.

I was wondering if anyone has ever played both the 714 and the 712 Ns and if so, what if anything did you notice differentiated the 2 other than easier access to higher frets. I will admit I like the 12 fret models for their compactness but I thought the 14 would be a bit more versatile.

Thanks

Earl

I have only owned a 314ce-N, among several GA guitars, but I have played several nylons further up the food chain.  The GC / x12 is the only body size that I have never owned, oddly enough.   The cutaway helps me because I do play somewhat regularly above the 12th fret.  Taylor nylon guitars have a general reputation of being more heavily built - less projection - than a true classical.  Not a direct answer to your question, but hope this helps.
Taylors:  424-LTD (all koa) and a 114ce that lives with friends in Alaska.  Low maintenance carbon fiber guitars are my "thing" these days, but I will always keep the koa 424.  Several ukulele and bass guitars too.
*Gone but not forgotten:  a 2001 414ce, 410, 354-LTD twelve string, 314-N, 416-LTD baritone, T5 Classic, 615ce, 2006 GS-K, 1996 (first year) Baby

When I got my 814, the last thing I compared it to was the 812. I liked the size, but it just didn't feel right to me. I also liked the sound of the 814 better, but I can't quantify that.
