New 514ce LTD
« on: May 23, 2020, 01:08:40 AM »
Has anyone played, or seen, a 2019 Limited Edition 514ce?
I am a long time Taylor player and I have been intrigued by the idea of the cedar/koa combination.
I play finger style and strum, with very little flatpicking, so I think this guitar might just be what I've been looking for.
Your time and responses are greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Haven’t played this exact version but I did Briefly audition a Closely related guitar, the 2015 K16 LTD which has the same cedar/koa combination. For fingerstyle it was very responsive and loud, and it did well with moderate strumming.  I ultimately didn’t keep it because I prefer no sparkle in my treble tone (after a year long journey I found I prefer hardwood tops best for that reason), but I’ll bet with the v-class and other improvements this could be even better than that guitar.  Although I’m not a believer that V-class improves volume, all of them I’ve tried/owned have improved sustain which gives me the impression that it has a richer thicker tone compared to before.

I played one at my local store a few months back. I'm a fingerpicker (with fingerpicks) and was impressed by the tone and balance. The cedar softened the sparkle a bit, but paired with the koa, it had enough to give that clarity that I like when I play....note separation. I'm really not in the market for another guitar (I'm happy with what I have), but I was duly tempted. I'm not a big strummer, so I can't tell you how that would have been, but guessing it would have held it's own to some degree, because Taylor cedar-topped guitars just have that range. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies and information.
I've been considering a new 614ce for a year now, then saw this limited wood combination and something clicked for me.
I sure wish I could play one.

Mine should be her Friday so I can tell you more then.

I'm a big fan of Taylor feel and Koa so I took a chance.

My SIL just got a 314CE Builders edition (his first guitar ever!) and I love it.

Then my wife who has NEVER suggested I buy a guitar says why don't you just order the guitar like Jerod's for a father's day/ birthday gift. I almost did just that then saw the 514 CE LTD and listened to a couple demos and decided to go for it.

I've been enjoying mine now for a week or so and it's everything I hoped for.

The setup is great and the tone is very balanced. A little more low-mid compared to the 324ce. Not better, just different.

This sounds like a really nice instrument.  I join the chorus of those who would love to see details and hear what you make with them.  Many thanks

Terrific video.  Mahalo!  Nice discussion and I love the mixture of the two woods in the sound they produce.  Happy playing!  Thnks again for the link and congrats.
