It sounds surprisingly good, as you would expect from a Taylor. I was surprised with the tone of the oak. Not as bright as some of my others but it has it's own voice. Considering what they started with, it's amazing how good it actually sounds. Bob proved his point in that he could build a guitar out of anything and have it sound great, that it is the technique and not necessarily the materials used that is the secret to building great guitars.
I was asking Bob Taylor about the Gallery Series guitars and the Pallet guitar at the NAMM show in the early 2000's and he explained the whole story of the Pallet guitar and how it came to be, and since that time I really wanted to add one to my collection. Fast forward 20 years and ample searching and I finally found one.. 1. Had to have it.
A guy I had been buying Taylor's from had a Liberty Tree and the Pallet he was going to sell, but at the last minute decided to hang onto the Pallet. About 8 months later he decided to let go of the Pallet after all. So he pretty much wiped me out of my discretionary 6 string funds in short order.
Now the hunt continues for an Ernie Ball Mr Horsepower... if anyone has one stashed away in a closet, or knows a guy who has one, please, shake the tree for me! Birthday is coming up and the dog needs to get me something nice.
